VBNWDW - Chapter 16

Chapter 16

"I don't want the car."

"Miss Xi, we've been legally married for so many days, yet you haven't come home to sleep even once…"

The quiet car was filled with the sound of her voice—Luo Yueqing's usual flirtatious tone, with its drawn-out words and rising inflection, like the brush of a fox's tail against an earlobe.

Xi Zhoulu lifted her gaze and stared intently at the woman beside her.

The banquet had ended, and the guests were now bidding their farewells and departing.

The earlier topic of the five hundred thousand had been lightly brushed aside after just a few sentences. Xi Zhoulu, after all, knew how to weigh her priorities and certainly wouldn't let Xi Zhoukang distract her from important matters. She had steered the conversation back on track in a matter of moments.

As for Luo Yueqing, she wasn't so shameless as to stay put. After resting on Xi Zhoulu's lap for a moment, she had stood up and followed behind her, doing her best to be a proper decorative piece for the rest of the evening.

Once the car wound its way off the mountain road, the scenery on either side opened up. Dim yellow streetlights stood in a continuous line, stretching the shadows of the trees long across the ground.

A window was cracked open, and the wind rushed in, lifting the strands of hair by the woman's ear.

"What's this? Does President Xi intend to leave me guarding an empty house all by myself?" Luo Yueqing, receiving no answer, wasn't offended and began to tease good-naturedly.

"How does that song go again? Loving someone who never comes home, waiting for a door that never opens…"

She actually began to sing. It wasn't unpleasant—at least she was on key—but her voice was naturally sultry, while the song was one of resentful complaint. The combination felt a little jarring. She didn't sound like a spurned woman, but more like a vixen waving from the doorway, her lover barely out of sight.

Xi Zhoulu subconsciously glanced toward the front. The driver had already thoughtfully raised the partition, ensuring no sound would carry through.

Her gaze shifted again, landing back on the smiling Luo Yueqing.

Perhaps because of Old Master Xi, Xi Zhoulu's impression of Alphas was rather rigid. She thought they were all more stubborn and serious than ordinary people, even clinging to a sort of inexplicable pride.

But Luo Yueqing was their complete opposite—impulsive and roguish, making it impossible to predict her next move…

The Alpha, completely oblivious to this, saw that Xi Zhoulu was still silent and even scooted closer, pressing against her arm.

Xi Zhoulu couldn't help but tighten her grip on the cane beside her.

The fabric of an evening gown is always scant and thin, revealing the arms and back. Even the covered parts were just a sheer layer of cloth. When pressed against another person, the sensation became incredibly distinct.

Luo Yueqing wasn't the extremely thin type; she was more voluptuous and well-proportioned, like a mature woman. Her body was cool to the touch, yet soft and pliant, enveloping Xi Zhoulu's arm like water.

Xi Zhoulu didn't answer, merely turning her head away.

But the other woman took a mile, leaning her head on Xi Zhoulu's shoulder and, in her usual winding, melodious tone, cooed in mock supplication, "Xi Zhoulu, why aren't you looking at me?"

The door handle was right there, and she could have tapped the partition to call the driver back, but Xi Zhoulu did nothing.

The woman's intermittent breaths curled around her earlobe, staining her ear and neck a faint, peachy pink.

Perhaps her blocker patch wasn't on properly, because from time to time, a wisp of rose-scented pheromones would escape, drifting lazily toward the nape of her neck.

"Xi Zhoulu," the woman called again, her seductive voice seeming to want to burrow into the fine texture of her skin, making it itch unbearably.

Her hand tightened on the cane, the carved handle digging into her palm with a stinging pain.

Xi Zhoulu finally managed to speak. "Miss Luo."

"Hm?" Luo Yueqing murmured, still pressed against her. Even in the dim light, her beautiful peach-blossom eyes hadn't lost an ounce of their charm.

Xi Zhoulu composed herself. "I'm sorr—"

She was cut off before she could finish. Luo Yueqing suddenly sat up straight, retracting all her excessive antics. "You haven't had your mental power treated in a long time," she said seriously.

"Coupled with your high-intensity work schedule recently, I think you're due for a guidance session."

It was as if all the earlier teasing had been a game. Now that she'd had her fun, Luo Yueqing was getting down to business.

Xi Zhoulu's gaze darkened slightly, but her expression remained as cool and distant as ever, betraying nothing. She stated, enunciating each word, "I still have some business to attend to. I'm afraid I can't go back tonight."

"Then I'll go to the office with you," Luo Yueqing replied instantly.

Xi Zhoulu considered it for a moment, then said, "Alright."

She could have the driver wait downstairs for a while. After the guidance session, he could take Luo Yueqing home.

She thought the matter was settled, but that shameless woman leaned in again. This time, she went even further, not only resting her head on Xi Zhoulu's shoulder but also wrapping her arms around her.

"Luo Yueqing!" Having been toyed with once already, Xi Zhoulu couldn't help but snap, a flash of annoyance in her eyes.

But the other woman showed no self-awareness at all, even inching closer until her hot breath fell upon Xi Zhoulu's lips.

Perhaps because it was nearing midnight, the deep darkness of the night concealed everything. There were few cars on the road; you could go a long time without seeing one. This made the car's interior extremely quiet, and the sound of their quickening breaths and heartbeats became abnormally clear.

Xi Zhoulu was not one to shy away. From a young age, she had been taught that avoidance was the most incompetent choice. So she didn't pull back, instead lowering her eyes to the crimson lips so close to her own.

She didn't know what shade of lipstick it was, but it certainly wasn't a popular choice. The color was simply too rich, too vivid, reminiscent of a wild rose.

"Xi Zhoulu, do you want to kiss?"

The question was asked so casually that Xi Zhoulu instinctively raised her gaze to meet the woman's smiling peach-blossom eyes. There was no trace of anything unusual in them; it was as if she were asking if she wanted a glass of milk.

She said, "I kind of want to kiss you."

"I've wanted to since I was sitting on your lap."

At that, Xi Zhoulu patted her own leg and said in an unusually low, husky voice, "Get on."

How could Luo Yueqing possibly refuse?

The sound of rustling fabric filled the car. A high heel unintentionally scraped against a trouser leg, smudging the pure white material with a bit of dirt, but no one cared.

A pair of full, fair arms hooked around Xi Zhoulu's neck again, and loose curls of hair brushed against her cheek.

Just then, the light from a passing streetlight pierced the window, shattering into scattered patches of light. It seemed to want to hollow out the red dress that outlined her exquisite figure, revealing the white skin beneath.

Xi Zhoulu raised a hand to cover the small of the other woman's back. Her pale gray-blue eyes were hidden in the shadows, her emotions unreadable.

Luo Yueqing didn't try to probe. She simply traced a line down Xi Zhoulu's neck with her cool fingertips, then came to rest on the first button of her shirt, undoing it with a gentle tug.

She whispered a reminder, "Remember to breathe."

Don't hold your breath for so long like last time.

The response was Xi Zhoulu tilting her chin up, her hand pressing against Luo Yueqing's waist, pulling her deeper into her embrace.

"You should worry more about yourself, Miss Luo," Xi Zhoulu murmured against the corner of her lips, her voice hoarse.

"Don't use up all your energy before you can even perform the mental guidance."

How could Xi Zhoulu, always the one in control, allow herself to be endlessly teased and provoked by Luo Yueqing? In just a few moves, she had reclaimed her dominance.

"Miss Xi is very confident in herself?" Luo Yueqing bit her lip, not to be outdone.

"The one who collapsed on the floor last time wasn't me," Xi Zhoulu retorted, hooking her tongue around Luo Yueqing's. In the struggle, her shirt was pulled open, revealing a length of straight collarbone.

"If I recall correctly, that was because Miss Xi didn't want to try it out beforehand, so I did my best to control myself," she paused, emphasizing each word, "and hit the e-mer-gen-cy brake."

Xi Zhoulu didn't argue, only saying, "We're still ten minutes from the office. Are you sure you want to waste time on this kind of debate?"

Of course, Luo Yueqing wasn't willing.

A soft, wet sound replaced all useless chatter. The scent of roses, mingled with the smell of burning wood, filled the entire car.

In those ten minutes, not a single second was wasted.
