CSGM - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: A Decent Performance
Chu Xi was the last to enter the room.
By the time the camera switched to her solo shot, the audience was already bored.
【I'm gonna puke, the most annoying person is here.】
【Can't the show set some standards for its guests? If you're going to have puzzles like this, why invite Chu Xi?】
【Can the camera switch back to the car? I'd rather watch the other four chat than watch Chu Xi try to answer a question!】
【I don't want to watch either. I want Chu Xi off the show every single second!】
The live comments were filled with negative remarks, but Chu Xi couldn't see what they were saying.
Even if she could, she wouldn't have cared about such shallow prejudice.
After listening to the riddle posed by the red and blue NPCs before her, her posture and expression remained unchanged. Her face was calm.
Then, the corners of her lips curled up, and a soft, enigmatic chuckle escaped.
The two NPCs exchanged glances, unsure what to make of Chu Xi's reaction. None of the previous four members had responded this way.
The audience was already shouting in the comments, telling Chu Xi not to act tough when her head was clearly empty!
They figured she probably didn't even understand the question. After all, it was a difficult logic problem, and the production team was being too hard on an illiterate person!
Chu Xi was seen taking a coin from her pocket, holding it between her index and middle fingers. She smiled at the NPCs. "In that case, let's let the coin decide."
When she said this, combined with her profoundly mysterious posture, the audience nearly died laughing!
【Just what you'd expect from an uneducated person.】
【Seriously, is she nuts? How can she act so smug just by flipping a coin? Does she actually think she's being clever?】
【I'm dying. I thought she had some brilliant idea. All that posturing, fierce as a tiger, but her actual move was pure idiocy!】
【Hahahahahahaha, I think she's just trying to cover up the fact that she didn't understand the question!】
【So she's just guessing blindly. Speechless. So much drama.】
Chu Xi tossed the coin into the air. After it flipped rapidly a few times, she caught it.
It happened so fast that no one could get a clear look.
She held out her clenched right fist and said, "The coin is in my hand now. I'll leave it to fate. The number side represents the red box, and the flower side represents the blue box. The box I choose will be the one corresponding to the side touching my palm."
The red-clothed NPC said, "No problem. You can use any method you like to choose."
"Alright, time to reveal the answer."
Chu Xi opened her hand, and the face of the coin was revealed—the number side was facing up.
That meant the side against her palm was the flower side.
She had just said that the flower side represented the blue box. The blue-clothed NPC turned and handed her the box from behind him.
Chu Xi opened it with a flick of her finger.
It was completely empty. There wasn't even a shadow of any money.
The blue-clothed NPC said with regret, "Sorry, you did not choose the correct box. Please leave immediately."
"Is that so?" A slight smile played on Chu Xi's lips.
"I forgot to tell you, there's a circus outside. I picked up this coin while watching a magic show earlier."
"?!" The two NPCs' expressions changed as they looked at her.
The coin was a magic prop? Crap, could it be…
"So, who said I chose the blue box?"
Chu Xi flipped the coin over in her palm. The other side was also a number!
She glanced at the two NPCs, who were frozen in place. "My apologies, but this coin has no flower side. Both sides are numbers."
The red-clothed NPC's mouth hung open. It was obvious the director hadn't trained him on how to handle this situation. If Chu Xi chose the number side, did that mean he had to give her his red box now?
But… but…
Seeing the red-clothed NPC's flustered and hesitant expression, Chu Xi knew her guess was correct.
She put her coin away and chatted with them casually. "Look at you, your thoughts are written all over your face. The truth is, neither of your boxes had any money in them from the start, right? No matter which one I chose, I would have seen an empty box and subconsciously assumed the money was in the other one, just like the coin you saw."
"You could say the answer to your riddle both exists and doesn't, because your real goal was to never give out any money."
As Chu Xi slowly laid out her explanation, sentence by sentence, a look of shock gradually appeared in the eyes of the two NPCs!
Because she was completely right! Not a single detail was wrong!
That was exactly what the director had told them during rehearsal. The props were all empty boxes. No matter what the players chose, they wouldn't get a single cent!
The director's plan was to keep all the members in the dark and watch them struggle for nothing—in other words, to mess with them on purpose. But he never expected that the moment Chu Xi arrived, she would refuse to play by his rules. Instead, she turned the tables on them and exposed the truth!
Chu Xi had revealed their entire script. What else could they say? The two of them could only stand there and watch her.
Chu Xi smiled and walked around the red-clothed NPC to the red box behind him. She hooked a finger under the lid and opened it as well.
Then she turned and pointed at the box for the camera.
The red box, now exposed on camera, was also completely empty, exactly as she had said.
Having been exposed on the spot, the two NPCs could only watch her, no longer knowing how to react.
They couldn't refute her choice of the box! And they certainly couldn't refute the facts she had laid out!
Wait, they had fooled the first four people just fine. How did they hit a wall with Chu Xi?
Chu Xi patted the red-clothed NPC's shoulder lightly. "It's fine. You gave a decent performance. It's just that you ran into me today."
With that, she strode coolly out of the room.
She left as casually as she came, leaving everyone behind in a state of disbelief!
At that moment, the live comments were nearly flooded with question marks.
【?????????????????????】
【Holy crap, what was that move from Chu Xi just now??????????】
【Wait, I have a question. Didn't you all say Chu Xi was dumb???? Isn't she uneducated???】
But Chu Xi's performance just now had nothing to do with the word "uneducated." Not only was she the only one who didn't fall for the production team's trap, but she even turned the tables on the NPCs!
The most brilliant part was that she used the same deceptive method as the production team to give the NPCs a taste of their own medicine!
Even the audience, who had a god's-eye view, only understood the production team's trick after her explanation!
【No wonder the boxes the others brought out had no money. I finally get it.】
【Guys, I just realized the director of this show is the same director from Extreme Survival!!!】
【So it's him! I was wondering why this love of tormenting people felt so familiar!】
【Hahahahahaha, so it's the director of Extreme Survival. Everyone knows he made the celebrities on his last show miserable. Didn't that one guy post on Weibo calling the director an Old Fox? I almost died laughing back then.】
【If you put it that way, then Chu Xi is way too awesome!】
No one had forgotten that Chu Xi hadn't fallen into the trap for a second.
She was calm and confident the entire time, and she even pulled off her counter-move effortlessly, easily handling the two NPCs.
It was as if Chu Xi had seen through the director's scheme from the very beginning.
The audience couldn't help but recall the smile she had when she took out the coin.
Mysterious, certain—it was the confidence of someone toying with their prey.
【Was I a little too loud with my comments about Chu Xi earlier?】
【Oh no, I actually found her smug look just now kind of dominant (I'm a girl). I need to go drink some herbal medicine to rebalance myself!】
【Putting everything else aside, just based on her on-the-spot reaction, if this was real, Chu Xi's IQ must be at least 120, right?】
If Chu Xi, with her IQ of 140, saw that comment, she would definitely remind the netizen to do their research before speaking.
【I think it's even more fake now. Chu Xi actually avoided the Old Fox director's trap?】
【Yeah, everyone else was fooled. Why wasn't she? She must have gotten the script.】
【Anyway, I don't believe she has the brains for that.】
【Chu Xi, get a new script. Try playing a better role. This persona doesn't suit you, hahahahahaha.】
At this moment, the majority of the audience still believed it was all an act. It was definitely staged.
Forget Chu Xi, who had a middle school education and couldn't even properly identify a triangle. Even those celebrities in the entertainment industry who had graduated from top universities would have found it difficult to react the way she did on the spot.
But the director was the only one who knew for certain that Chu Xi had not been given any script.
He stood behind the camera, feeling shocked, uneasy, and excited. From the moment Chu Xi left the room to when she boarded the RV, his eyes never left her.
He had been producing variety shows for so long. He was always the one messing with the celebrities; he had never been on the receiving end of a counter-attack!
This time, his original plan was to put the five members in a difficult situation and watch them lament choosing the wrong box.
But Chu Xi just nonchalantly exposed his intentions and left?
Excellent…
The director watched her relaxed and unrestrained figure, murmuring, "Excellent, this Chu Xi… No one has ever been like her on my show…"
As soon as Chu Xi got on the RV, Li Xiling asked nonchalantly, as if she had expected it, "You didn't get any money, did you?"
"No," Chu Xi replied.
"Sigh, I knew it." Li Xiling wasn't surprised at all.
Ren Zhi stood up and began searching around the massive RV, which had been converted into a mobile restaurant, rummaging through cabinets and drawers.
While searching, she discussed with everyone, "What should we do then? Without any starting capital, we'll have to find some raw ingredients to cook and sell for the first day…"
Seeing how tense everyone was, Luo Yangtian took a box of xylitol from his pocket and went around offering it to everyone.
"Sister Zhi, have a piece of candy first, don't worry. We'll look together later… Sister Ling, here, peach-flavored… Brother Han, you try one too…"
When he got to Chu Xi, she looked at the young man and asked, "Are you still in university?"
Luo Yangtian smiled and replied, "Yeah, Sister Xi. I'm a sophomore this year."
Not bad, he has potential.
Chu Xi took the candy from him and said, "At your age, you should be studying hard. Improving your IQ will help you understand scripts better in the future. How about this? Since we'll be together for forty-six days anyway, you can become my disciple, and I'll tutor you in a few subjects to get you perfect scores."
Luo Yangtian froze. What?
The other three were also stunned. What did Chu Xi just say?
Xiao Han couldn't help but laugh, teasing, "Chu Xi, have you ever been to university? Do you even know what a perfect score means?"
Oh no! He hit Chu Xi's sore spot! The other members were horrified!
Luo Yangtian quickly tried to change the subject with a laugh. "Sister Xi, that's a great joke! Really lightens the mood! Come on, everyone, let's go help Sister Zhi find some ingredients in the RV!"
It wasn't that he looked down on anyone, but… he did not want to be tutored by the middle-school graduate Chu Xi!
