PANT - Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Under the dim lights of the bar, Shen Qingtang’s face was just as dark and inscrutable.
Su Tianxue watched her with cold eyes. Aside from a bit of surprise at the sudden appearance of this person from her past, she felt no other emotion.
But Shen Qingtang was different.
Compared to Su Tianxue, Shen Qingtang seemed incredibly enthusiastic.
Faced with this warmth, Su Tianxue found it hard to refuse, just as she had all those years ago. She stood quietly, listening to Shen Qingtang speak.
Shen Qingtang’s words seemed to intentionally or unintentionally bring up the past.
Perhaps she was trying to use these memories to close the distance between them and dispel the sense of unfamiliarity that now existed.
“Su Tianxue, I’ve realized you really haven’t changed. Seeing you now is just like seeing you in high school,” Shen Qingtang said with a teasing smile.
Su Tianxue didn’t reply, merely lifting her gaze to Shen Qingtang, as if waiting for her to finish.
When Shen Qingtang spoke again, her voice carried a hint of familiarity and petulance.
“Su Tianxue, why are you looking at me like that? Let me tell you, don’t think you can scare me. You used to have that same cold face back then, making everyone in class too scared to be your friend. Only I wasn’t afraid of anything and stuck to you every day. Do you really think you can scare me off now by putting on a stern face?”
Listening to Shen Qingtang’s long, winding speech, Su Tianxue felt a little weary. Her eyes, as clear as lake water, met Shen Qingtang’s as she asked softly, “Did you call me over just to talk about these things?”
Shen Qingtang shook her head, observing Su Tianxue’s expression. “I actually wanted to ask you… Su Tianxue, I was wrong about what happened back then. Can we be friends again? Please?”
Hearing this, Su Tianxue frowned, her lips tightening. “There was no right or wrong in that matter. It’s just that I thought it proved we might not be suited to be friends.”
Shen Qingtang stomped her foot unhappily. “Su Tianxue! How can you still be like a block of ice after so many years! Do you think you’re a robot? How are we not suited to be friends?”
Shen Qingtang complained softly, “Back then, before the college entrance exams, all I did was ask if you’d be willing to change your university choice and come to the same city as me. You refused without a second thought. Wasn’t I allowed to throw a little tantrum? Hmph, and it’s not like you ever tried to coax me. Later, I went somewhere else, and you got into your dream school. We went our separate ways. It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other. There’s no need to keep holding on to such a small thing, right?”
Shen Qingtang joked, “Since when did you become so vengeful?”
“I wouldn’t call it vengeful, and I haven’t been holding onto it,” Su Tianxue said calmly. “I just think that, to some extent, you were right. Shen Qingtang, you said I was an annoying person and that you never considered me a friend.”
As Su Tianxue uttered these words, she was able to maintain absolute calm and composure, as if she were recounting someone else’s story.
“From that incident, it’s clear, Shen Qingtang, that our definitions of a friend are different, and our needs from a friendship are also different. So there’s no need for us to be friends now.”
“But-”
Shen Qingtang wanted to say something but held back.
She hadn’t expected Su Tianxue to be so resolute.
She called out to Su Tianxue, who was about to turn and leave, “But what if I told you I’ve grown up? Su Tianxue, you were my best friend in high school. I can’t bear to lose you.”
Su Tianxue turned back.
The words sounded somewhat ironic.
How many years had it been since high school?
Was she in her twilight years? Or had she entered the stage of reminiscing about the past?
And now she was saying she couldn’t bear to lose her.
Su Tianxue’s cool face, caught in the play of light and shadow, was like a snowflake, flickering in and out of view, indistinct.
Su Tianxue: “Are you lacking friends now?”
This wasn’t sarcasm; it was a genuine question.
Shen Qingtang was Su Tianxue’s opposite, two completely different people.
In high school, Su Tianxue’s aloofness, combined with her outstanding grades and dislike for socializing, led to her being ostracized by her classmates. They felt she looked down on them because she was smart.
Shen Qingtang, on the other hand, was probably the most well-liked girl in class. Her grades were good, consistently ranking second or third. She was helpful and smiled at everyone. Even the most difficult and rebellious troublemakers in class would chat with her for a bit and obediently listen to her.
Being the class president was a thankless job that often made enemies, yet Shen Qingtang handled it beautifully.
She was different from Su Tianxue.
Although both were prominent figures in their school days, Su Tianxue was known for her coldness, while Shen Qingtang was the school belle everyone adored.
As for the matter of university choices she had just mentioned, it was nothing more than a conversation they had before the college entrance exams about their future schools.
While Shen Qingtang was considered a top student in her grade, she was no match for Su Tianxue, a god-tier student who left everyone else in the dust.
The university Su Tianxue wanted to attend was a prestigious, long-standing institution in the north. It wasn’t the absolute best, but its astronomy program was strong, even ranking internationally.
Based on Shen Qingtang’s grades, her best option was a different university at the complete opposite end of the map.
The two locations were worlds apart, separated by a vast distance.
Shen Qingtang had carefully researched her target school and found that its astronomy program was also quite good. There were even several other schools with decent astronomy programs in the same city.
Knowing she couldn’t get into Su Tianxue’s university and that it wasn’t a suitable choice for her, she had brought up the suggestion during a chat, half-joking and half-testing the waters.
Shen Qingtang suggested they could try to compromise and aim for the same city.
At that time, it wasn’t uncommon for best friends to promise to attend the same university together.
Although Shen Qingtang had anticipated Su Tianxue’s answer even as she asked, when Su Tianxue refused without a moment’s hesitation, something inside her snapped.
She thought, how could Su Tianxue be so rational, so heartless?
For the past three years, Shen Qingtang had considered herself Su Tianxue’s best and only friend.
Throughout their school years, she was the only one Su Tianxue would hang out with, eat with, talk to, and go to and from class with.
She thought that even if Su Tianxue were a block of ice, three years should have been enough to warm her up. That’s why she had tested her, thinking Su Tianxue would at least show a moment of hesitation or doubt.
After all, for girls their age, the separation after high school graduation, heading to different corners of the country, seemed to signify that their worlds would no longer be the same.
She thought Su Tianxue would at least waver, but in reality, Su Tianxue had rejected her proposal without the slightest hesitation.
From that day on, Shen Qingtang started giving Su Tianxue the cold shoulder.
It couldn’t even be called a fight.
A fight required two participants.
But between Su Tianxue and Shen Qingtang, only Shen Qingtang was sulking.
She had intended to teach Su Tianxue a lesson, to make her go to class alone, to have no one to eat with in the cafeteria, and no one to talk to.
She stood with the very people who had once refused to befriend Su Tianxue, watching from a distance, waiting for Su Tianxue to come to her first.
But as she waited and waited, Shen Qingtang discovered… that without her, Su Tianxue’s life seemed completely unaffected.
Su Tianxue came and went alone, a solitary figure.
Her grades remained firmly at the top of the year, her total score leagues ahead of everyone else.
The recent strain on their friendship seemed to have had no impact on her whatsoever.
In contrast, Shen Qingtang’s own grades plummeted, and her teacher had to have a long talk with her.
As time went on, Shen Qingtang couldn’t bring herself to swallow her pride and make up with Su Tianxue. And so, the two of them drifted apart.
The next time they spoke was at the post-exam party.
The entire class was gathered, teachers included.
To celebrate this moment of liberation, the teachers didn’t even stop the students from drinking. Everyone was having a blast, except for Su Tianxue, who sat alone in a corner, exuding an air of cold detachment.
Shen Qingtang raised a glass to Su Tianxue and said one thing: “You know what? Su Tianxue, I’ve hated you since the first moment I saw you.”
“I never once thought of you as a friend.”
For a long time after that, Su Tianxue would remember Shen Qingtang’s words. She had to admit, Shen Qingtang’s statement provided her with many new perspectives in her search for self-awareness and her understanding of interpersonal relationships.
Why would someone who hated her from the first glance be her friend for three years?
If she didn’t consider her a friend, why did she cling to her every day, spending all her time with her?
The eighteen-year-old Su Tianxue couldn’t figure it out, and the twenty-eight-year-old Su Tianxue still couldn’t figure it out.
But she wouldn’t ask, because for Su Tianxue, asking or not asking no longer mattered.
In the hallway, the frost on Su Tianxue’s face chilled Shen Qingtang’s heart.
Shen Qingtang pleaded again, “Can we really not be friends anymore?”
“Su Tianxue, I have many friends, but no one is like you.”
After experiencing those three years of being treated specially by Su Tianxue, Shen Qingtang found she could no longer stand being ignored.
She had always believed that as long as she was willing, their friendship could be rekindled at any time.
She was certain she was special.
“Are you finished? If you are, I’ll be leaving,” Su Tianxue’s rejection was already obvious.
“Wait!!”
Shen Qingtang was unwilling to give up.
She told Su Tianxue, “Actually, there’s something I’ve been holding in my heart for a long time. Now that I’ve finally seen you again, I have the courage to tell you. Su Tianxue… actually, what I said that day wasn’t what I truly meant. You know?”
“The reason I hated you was simple. It was because you always seemed to do everything so effortlessly. You could easily get everything I wanted and become number one.”
“Su Tianxue, you probably don’t even remember. We actually met before high school, at a middle school physics competition. We were in the same group. The first time I saw you, I thought, this girl has such an amazing presence. I said hi to you, but you didn’t care at all. At that moment, I thought you were a bit arrogant, a bit annoying. Later, when the competition results came out, your name was first, and I was a few places behind you. I felt so unwilling to accept it.”
“I wanted my name to surpass yours, or at the very least, to push others down so I could be right behind you. I wanted you to see me.”
“Isn’t it a coincidence? We ended up in the same high school. I recognized you on the first day of military training and wanted to say hello, but you didn’t seem to remember me at all. That’s why I said I hated you.”
“You’re like a wandering cloud in the sky, always carefree, always leaving no trace, always indifferent to others. To be honest, I was quite surprised to hear you got married. Su Tianxue, I thought someone like you, who doesn’t even care about friends, would never get married.”
“How can you stand having your life tied to another person?”
After listening to Shen Qingtang recount so much of their past, faced with her subtle accusations, Su Tianxue pressed her lips together and replied very seriously, “I did care about my friends.”
Shen Qingtang scoffed. “Oh, give me a break. If you had cared even a little bit about our friendship, you wouldn’t have rejected my question so directly back then.”
Shen Qingtang considered herself quite magnanimous.
She had a general idea of what kind of person Su Tianxue was, so she never expected her to actually change her mind and her university choice as she had wished. All she wanted was a moment of hesitation—a moment where she was placed alongside Su Tianxue’s future, a moment of being considered a worthy competitor.
But what about Su Tianxue?
She wasn’t even willing to give her that tiny sliver of hesitation.
Seeing Su Tianxue remain silent, Shen Qingtang’s heart sank, but a smile slowly appeared on her face. “Alright, alright. If I say any more, I’ll just annoy you again. How about this, old classmate, it’s been a while. Let’s exchange contact information?”
“There’s no need,” Su Tianxue said flatly. “I have things to do. I’m leaving.”
Su Tianxue turned and left, her movements crisp and decisive, without a hint of hesitation.
Just like when she had given her answer back then.
Shen Qingtang watched her retreating back and curled her lips into a mocking smile.
As expected of Su Tianxue. How could a person like that… ever fall in love with someone else?
Shi Ning probably hasn’t received her love either, has she?
Just as Shen Qingtang was looking down with a cold laugh, Su Tianxue, who had just left, stopped. She turned around, and from across the long hallway, her gaze seemed to pierce through all confusion.
“Shen Qingtang, I once seriously considered you a friend.”
“And I also know that we will not be friends in the future.”
The suggestion Shen Qingtang had made was impossible for Su Tianxue to accept, because she would never give up her dream for something like that.
That university was the place she had dreamed of ever since she started pursuing astronomy. The only reason she participated in competitions was to get there sooner.
On this matter, Su Tianxue would not waver in the slightest.
She had known her path from the very beginning, and she knew where she was going.
But unbeknownst to Shen Qingtang, Su Tianxue had already made plans.
The distance between the two cities.
The price of a train ticket.
If her friend, Shen Qingtang, had said just one word, she would have rushed over.
Besides, university students had winter and summer breaks.
They would always meet during the New Year.
In Su Tianxue’s heart, true friendship was something that time and distance could not sever.
Even if they hadn’t been in contact for a long time, they could still meet again and talk and laugh without the slightest bit of awkwardness.
She never said any of these plans she had in her heart, and Shen Qingtang never knew.
Hearing Su Tianxue’s words, Shen Qingtang couldn’t suppress a cold laugh. “Su Tianxue, let me ask you one more thing. If you truly considered me a friend, even for a second, why didn’t you come to me when I pulled away?”
Su Tianxue blinked blankly. “Your actions already spoke for you. Why would I need to go to you?”
Shen Qingtang was speechless.
She desperately wanted to ask this woman if she had any idea what it meant to feign retreat to advance, or to play hard to get.
Forget it.
Shen Qingtang sighed. “You can go.”
The reunion with an old friend and the complete break-off happened in but a brief moment.
Su Tianxue turned to look for Shi Ning, but when her gaze fell upon the center of the bar’s dance floor, she couldn’t look away.
Shi Ning was currently in the middle of the dance floor.
She was like a bewitching fox demon with her charm on full display, dancing in the center of the floor, swaying to the music.
Mo Lingyuan was by her side.
If Mo Lingyuan’s allure had a touch of coquettishness, then Shi Ning’s always carried a heroic spirit, a beauty that transcended gender. The two of them on the dance floor complemented each other perfectly.
Su Tianxue stood where she was and didn’t go down. She was still wrapped in Shi Ning’s white suit jacket. The hem of her champagne-gold dress was like a stream of light, flashing in the darkness.
The DJ changed the music.
A new song started.
“I love it when you call me señorita.”
Guided by a dancer, Shi Ning was invited onto the stage. She showed no weakness, dancing wildly on stage like a blazing flame burning in hell, or like a fiery lotus slowly unfurling its petals, making no attempt to hide her charm.
This splash of red was about to set the entire bar on fire.
Su Tianxue stood by the stairs, watching with great interest.
Before the music ended, Shi Ning stopped moving, because as she looked up, she caught sight of a golden stream of light by the railing upstairs. It was Su Tianxue.
Amidst the chaotic, noisy crowd, within the surging pheromones, under the ambiguously flashing lights, and through the seductive humming of the female singer, Shi Ning’s and Su Tianxue’s eyes met.
In the crowd, on the stage, the red-haired woman was surrounded by clamorous cheers. But her eyes held only the person hidden in the shadows.
Su Tianxue was like a deity who had long resided in the mountains. One day, she happened to see the bustling world below, and as she lowered her gaze to watch, her eyes met those of the courtesan queen from the brothel across the way.
The immortal said nothing, merely raising a hand and beckoning lightly.
And the gorgeously dressed courtesan queen cast off all her splendor and riches, following her lord without hesitation.
Shi Ning was likely in the same situation at this moment.
After Su Tianxue gently beckoned with her fingertip, Shi Ning flipped off the stage. Amidst the gasps of the others, she walked up, step by step.
The bar’s industrial-style iron staircase seemed to become a ladder to heaven, for a mortal to ascend to where the immortal resided.
Su Tianxue shifted her position, leaning against the railing behind her.
She looked at Shi Ning and asked with a smile, “Willing to come up?”
Shi Ning answered without hesitation, “There’s no comparison.”
How could the clamor of the mortal world compare to the favor of an immortal?
Su Tianxue lifted her chin slightly.
“Not a bad dance.”
Su Tianxue’s words seemed to carry a hidden meaning.
Shi Ning hummed, stepping forward to profane the immortal. Her arm wrapped around Su Tianxue’s waist, pulling her into her embrace. “I’m good at other things too.”
Shi Ning pinched Su Tianxue’s soft earlobe. “So, you’re done talking with your old friend?”
Su Tianxue hummed in agreement. She reached out and straightened the cuff of Shi Ning’s silk shirt, which had been rolled up while she was dancing.
Nonexistent dust was flicked away.
Su Tianxue: “And you’re done talking with your ex-girlfriend?”
Hearing this, Shi Ning smiled. “She and I have nothing to talk about.”
Su Tianxue: “Is that so? Weren’t you two having a pleasant chat just now?”
“Just now?” Shi Ning was confused for a moment, then she understood. “Are you talking about Mo Lingyuan and the person she likes?”
Su Tianxue hummed.
Shi Ning quickly distanced herself. “Wife! The person she likes now isn’t me!”
Shi Ning looked at Su Tianxue and asked, “Speaking of which, that old friend of yours, does she have someone she likes?”
Shi Ning had been thinking about what Mo Lingyuan had just told her, and now she asked Su Tianxue without hesitation.
Su Tianxue wore an expression that said, it has nothing to do with me. “I don’t know.”
Shi Ning said, “Oh.”
“Then have you ever considered that the person she likes might be you?”
“Me?” The absurdity of the question made Su Tianxue laugh, a laugh tinged with mockery. “That’s impossible.”
Now Shi Ning was truly curious. “Why is it impossible?”
Su Tianxue: “She said in high school that she hated me from the first moment she saw me and never considered me a friend.”
Hearing this, Shi Ning felt a sourness in her heart, as if a jar of vinegar had been placed in her chest and was now bubbling over.
At first, she didn’t want to mind the sourness.
But the bubbles were too audacious, constantly rushing upwards, making it impossible for her to ignore.
Shi Ning said faintly, “You still remember things from high school so clearly? What a good memory.”
Su Tianxue accepted the compliment with a smile. “It’s decent. I have a photographic memory.”
…...
Her fists were clenched.
Shi Ning pulled Su Tianxue tighter into her embrace. “You know what? I feel the same way she does.”
The first time I saw you, Su Tianxue, I thought, hmm, this person is so annoying.
But haven’t I completely fallen for you now?
In a way, Shi Ning felt that what Shen Qingtang had said could be translated into another meaning.
I didn’t see you as a friend because I wanted you to be my girlfriend.
But Shi Ning had no intention of confessing on behalf of her love rival. She just huffed twice and let the matter drop.
Who knew Su Tianxue would bring up old scores with her.
Su Tianxue: “So, you’re saying that when you first saw me, you found me very annoying?”
A question lurked in Su Tianxue’s gaze, along with a hint of provocation.
Under this gaze, Shi Ning’s desires were stirred.
She desperately wanted to press the woman down right now, to seal her lips with a fierce kiss, to stop her from saying any more words she found annoying, and to stop her from revealing such an alluring expression.
Every time she saw her like this, she wanted to break her proud spirit, to pull her down from the heavens into the mortal world, to make her enter the cycle of love and desire, to make her experience what it means to be human.
To let her know that romance and passion are the most important things in the world.
But for now, Shi Ning suppressed this thought.
Su Tianxue was not one to be outdone. Leaning in Shi Ning’s arms, she raised a hand, her fingertips lightly hooking Shi Ning’s collar, toying with a button.
“What a coincidence. The first time I saw you, I also found you very annoying.”
Shi Ning wasn’t the least bit angry. The corner of her mouth lifted in a smile. “So what can we do about it? Aren’t you still married to this person you find annoying? Aren’t you still with this person you find annoying, seeking-pleasure-day-after-day? Hmm?”
Su Tianxue corrected her, “I don’t think we’ve reached the ‘day-after-day’ stage yet.”
Why did those four words sound so absurd?
Shi Ning blinked slowly. “You’re right. It seems we haven’t done it today yet.”
Shi Ning had only said this to tease Su Tianxue and see her reaction, but when Su Tianxue actually gave a reaction, she was a little stunned.
With a light flick of her fingertip, the tightly fastened button came undone. Her finger traced a light circle on the side of Shi Ning’s collarbone as she said, “So, do you want to make up for what we haven’t done, right here, right now?”
Shi Ning was amazed, then felt an urge to facepalm.
The Su Tianxue of today was getting bolder and more seductive.
The two of them said no more. Shi Ning held Su Tianxue and silently walked toward a certain place.
The bar’s restroom was exquisitely decorated, very elegant, with a dedicated ladies’ makeup room and a mother-and-baby stall.
Although Shi Ning couldn’t understand why a bar would need a mother-and-baby stall.
But right now, it provided a convenience for her and Su Tianxue.
The stall door was closed.
The small stall partitioned off the space.
The two of them kissed passionately, pressed against the partition.
Next to them was a regular toilet stall. The door of that stall was suddenly slammed, and the woman inside cursed, “What the hell?”
Both of them paused for a fraction of a second, then simultaneously continued.
The air freshener in the stall smelled of cranberry, a little tart with a light, fruity fragrance.
This scent slowly spread.
The smell of Shi Ning’s and Su Tianxue’s pheromones mingled with it.
Fortunately, the bar had special pheromone blockers installed to suppress the reactions of Omegas and Alphas, so what they were doing didn’t cause a commotion.
On the small sofa in the mother-and-baby stall, Su Tianxue lay back.
The hem of her golden dress was like sunlight spilling down a mountain, flowing over the edge of the seat.
Sunlight on a golden mountain wasn’t just found on high peaks; it was also found here.
Upon a field of pure white.
Shi Ning leaned over, determined to let the untainted, banished immortal have a taste of the mortal world.
Suddenly, there was a noise outside.
With quick reflexes, Shi Ning pulled the hem of Su Tianxue’s dress to her side.
The bit of gold that had been peeking out from under the stall door disappeared.
A newcomer walked in, looked around the restroom, saw that every door was locked, and then headed for the mother-and-baby stall, musing, “Can I use the toilet in here too?”
As she finished speaking, she had already stepped forward and reached out to pull at the stall door.
With a clatter, the door moved but didn’t open.
Su Tianxue’s entire body went rigid.
Realizing the door was locked from the inside, the woman was a bit puzzled. She knocked and asked, “Is anyone in there?”
Shi Ning didn’t speak.
The hand covering Su Tianxue’s mouth loosened slightly.
Her eyes seemed to say, Su Tianxue, it’s your turn.
How could Su Tianxue handle a move like that?
She refused to speak, pressing her lips together and squeezing her legs tightly.
Shi Ning sucked in a breath, cleared her throat, and suppressed the unsteadiness in her voice before answering the person outside, “Yes.”
Hearing the voice, the person said, “Sorry to bother you,” and the sound of footsteps indicated she had turned and left.
A long while later, the two of them emerged, having tidied themselves up.
Shi Ning used the hand that had just tied the straps on the back of the woman’s dress to pinch Su Tianxue’s earlobe. “Do you think they could tell just now?”
Su Tianxue shot Shi Ning a glare and said no more.
Shi Ning knew she was in the wrong and rubbed her nose, but then she thought, Su Tianxue had a part in this too.
“Why are you being fierce with me, Wife?”
“Aren’t we accomplices?”
If this night of indulgence were to be judged a crime, then she and Su Tianxue would willingly be accomplices.
Violating the precepts and rules.
Violating the moral order.
Violating… the seventh deadly sin of lust.
Su Tianxue: “Sooner or later, I’m going to hell with you.”
Hearing this, Shi Ning grinned. “You won’t, Wife.”
“I couldn’t bear it.”
Seeing the two of them come out, Mo Lingyuan, who was already dead drunk, and Xin Ya, who was high on booze, happily waved at them. Of the three, only Zhou Lu was still sober, calmly nodding at the pair.
Xin Ya asked bluntly, “Where’d you two go? Sneaking off to drink without us?”
Shi Ning: “Stay out of married couple’s business.”
Xin Ya let out a wail and turned to Zhou Lu, whining, “Lu Lu, someone’s being mean to me.”
Zhou Lu: “Sober up.”
If only she’d had a single peanut.
She wouldn’t have gotten this drunk!!
Mo Lingyuan was already dizzy, her eyes hazy and barely open.
This absurd night was finally over.
Zhou Lu took on the task of taking Mo Lingyuan and Xin Ya home. Shi Ning saw this and thanked her for her trouble.
Zhou Lu: “It’s what I should do.”
Xin Ya lifted her head proudly. “Did you hear that! Lu Lu said taking care of me is what she should do!”
Zhou Lu: “…”
Just before getting into the car, Mo Lingyuan suddenly had a fit, shouting at Su Tianxue, “Su Jiejie, can you give me a hug?”
Before Su Tianxue could speak, Shi Ning was already displeased.
“Mo Lingyuan, get it straight. This is my wife.”
A hug? What hug!!
Go hug the northwest wind!!!
Mo Lingyuan huffed. “So what if she’s your wife? She’s still my Su Jiejie.”
Shi Ning: “She’s drunk, Wife. Mo Lingyuan is definitely drunk. Just ignore her.”
Mo Lingyuan shook her head. “No, no, Su Jiejie, please pay attention to me.”
Mo Lingyuan squatted on the ground pitifully, looking up at Su Tianxue with puppy-dog eyes. She said, “Jiejie, just one more hug, the last one. Hug me once, and I’ll leave.”
Her voice was soft, sounding rather pathetic.
Shi Ning gritted her teeth. “Wife, don’t fall for it.”
For some reason, Su Tianxue felt that although Mo Lingyuan’s words were directed at her, her eyes seemed to be looking through her at someone else.
Who was she looking at?
Su Tianxue didn’t know. She thought it might be the person Shi Ning and Mo Lingyuan had just been talking about, the one Mo Lingyuan liked.
Su Tianxue sighed softly, gathered her dress, and squatted down. She reached out and gently stroked Mo Lingyuan’s hair.
Mo Lingyuan’s hair felt very nice, soft and fine.
“Someone will get jealous, so I can’t hug you.”
Su Tianxue was clearly a very cold person, but when she was gentle, it was almost lethal.
“Is this okay?”
The warmth from her palm spread, and Mo Lingyuan’s heart melted.
She closed her eyes.
“Feeling better?” Su Tianxue gently patted Mo Lingyuan’s back, like an older sister coaxing a sulking child.
Mo Lingyuan’s eyes grew moist. She choked back a sob and hummed in agreement.
“Get up, it’s time to go home. Be careful on your own.”
Su Tianxue instructed in a cool voice.
From Su Tianxue’s words, Mo Lingyuan suddenly understood.
Yes, it was time for her to set off.
Even if she was all alone.
Shi Ning really couldn’t bear to see Mo Lingyuan looking so pitiful. The emotions left behind by the original owner were still there, still feeling it was all so unfair.
She wondered if one day Mo Lingyuan sobered up and met the original owner again, would there still be a chance for them?
The question flashed through her mind, and then Shi Ning smiled.
Meet the original owner?
She didn’t even know how she got to this world, let alone where the other person was.
She looked up at the vast sky, at the countless stars, and thought of the theories about stars and parallel universes that Su Tianxue had mentioned.
Hmm.
The stars are above.
If possible, she hoped the other Shi Ning was also doing well and could meet someone she liked, just like her now.
“Let’s go, time to go home.”
After seeing off Mo Lingyuan, Xin Ya, and Zhou Lu, Su Tianxue said to Shi Ning.
The taxi they called had arrived.
After getting in the car, Shi Ning suddenly remembered what Su Tianxue had said when she answered Mo Lingyuan’s question.
She quietly took out her phone in the car and sent a message to Ye Wanlan.
Shi Ning: Wan’er Jiejie, what was my major in university?
Ye Wanlan sent back several question marks.
Ye Wanlan: What’s going on?
Ye Wanlan: I know you didn’t take school seriously and went off to study interior design, but I didn’t know you could even forget this?
Ye Wanlan: You studied law in university. You have a Bachelor of Laws degree. A few of the legal staff at the company are your alumni and classmates.
Shi Ning: …...Law?
Ye Wanlan: That’s right.
Seeing this message, Shi Ning blinked.
She suddenly felt that everything was fated.
She looked at Su Tianxue, who was resting with her eyes closed, her head leaning against the car window, and said, “Wife. I have an idea.”
Su Tianxue opened her eyes, signaling for Shi Ning to continue.
Shi Ning: “In one month, I’ll handle your lawsuit.”
Su Tianxue understood in an instant. “You’re going to be a lawyer?”
Shi Ning: “Not exactly. I’ll pass the bar exam first. Then I can be an assistant lawyer affiliated with a law firm.”
Although she still wouldn’t be able to stand in court, it would be enough to work on Su Tianxue’s behalf.
Su Tianxue: “When is the bar exam?”
Shi Ning checked and confirmed again. “The end of this month.”
Su Tianxue thought about the date.
Today was already the third.
The end of this month…
Su Tianxue: “Are you serious?”
Shi Ning nodded.
Passing the bar exam in such a short time was an absurd notion for Shi Ning.
Even someone like Su Tianxue, who knew little about law, had heard about the difficulty of the bar exam during her school days.
Shi Ning: “Wife, you don’t believe in me?”
Su Tianxue: “I believe in you.”
Su Tianxue: “Shi Ning, my case is in your hands.”
With Su Tianxue’s words, Shi Ning thought, what reason did she have not to be serious?
