ORCBRB – Chapter 95

Chapter 95

The senior management of Jian Corporation was satisfied with Sang Shi'an's first interview, but according to the rules and regulations, Sang Shi'an still went through second and third interviews, and had a three-month probationary period.

Sang Shi'an not only had to quickly familiarize herself with the operations of Jian Corporation, but also had to adjust product liability insurance for the anti-cancer drug and balance bank loan capital. The challenges she faced were greater than those of her 'predecessors'.

All eyes at Jian Corporation were on the newly appointed CEO, and the curiosity about her was no less than that for Jian Cenyu, who was leading the anti-cancer drug project.

When they were first notified that this was the new CEO, the employees' initial reaction was that their eyes were playing tricks on them.

“Has the cosmetic surgery industry released a new youth-restoring product recently? How is the new CEO Sang so young?” An employee coming out of an office looked at the fresh-faced intern beside them, then at Sang Shi'an, finding it more and more incredible the longer they looked.

This news spread like wildfire, prompting all the employees of Jian Corporation to find ways to get a glimpse of Sang Shi'an in her office. But most people couldn't find a suitable reason and could only satisfy their curiosity through secretly taken photos after work hours.

Sang Shi'an also did a good job of keeping things confidential. From the day of her interview, she hung her wedding ring on a string around her neck. At least during her probation period, she didn't want people to know about her relationship with Jian Cenyu. She even insisted on driving to and from work herself, which made Jian Cenyu not know whether to laugh or cry.

Of course, as time went on, some people recognized that Sang Shi'an had worked at Jian Corporation as Jian Cenyu's secretary two years ago.

But while an ordinary position could be obtained through connections, the position of CEO couldn't be secured that way. No one would joke around with so many hundreds of millions. It was better to avoid trouble, so no one specifically brought it up.

Sang Shi'an paid no mind to the curiosity of the company's employees. On her very first day, she fired the head of human resources. She listed several reasons for violating company regulations, paid the full compensation owed, and gave him no opportunity to argue.

Even without the other evidence found later, the fact that the HR head judged people by their appearance based on his personal preferences was enough to get him fired.

In the first two months, Sang Shi'an secured a series of low-interest credit lines from banks and made significant adjustments to Jian Corporation's existing production structure, making the entire company work overtime with her for two months.

Even with generous overtime pay, everyone in the company was miserable and no longer had time to gossip about their young CEO.

Jian Cenyu, on the other hand, was enjoying her leisure. The domestic lab was being re-established, and the core research tasks from Australia would gradually be moved back to the country. Every day, Jian Cenyu would swing by to check on the lab's progress, then return to Jian Corporation to serve tea and water to the new CEO Sang.

On the day her three-month probation ended, Sang Shi'an, for a change, didn't have a date with Jian Cenyu. She returned to the Sang residence and chattered nonstop around her mother.

“I'm exhausted from putting on a stern face every day! Cenyu Jiejie doesn't help me at all; she just sits on the sofa and watches me work. Do you think that's reasonable? Is it?! And those senior executives are so hard to deal with. Didn't Uncle Jian say he'd already carried out a major overhaul these past two years? I don't know why they still love to argue back so much. But it's fine, I have my ways of making them shut up. Mom, don't you think I'm so amazing?”

It was as if she wanted to tell Ren Li everything that had happened at Jian Corporation over the past three months. She talked until her mouth was dry, still babbling on. It was Sang Shiyue who couldn't stand it anymore and poured her a glass of water. “Here, drink some water before you continue.”

Ren Li was helping Sang Shi'an review the listing documents for the US, checking for any deeply hidden clauses, all while smiling and agreeing with Sang Shi'an's words.

“Yes, how is our baby so amazing?”

For a manager parachuted in like Sang Shi'an, the most difficult thing to handle at the beginning wasn't the complicated company operations, but the interpersonal relationships with the senior management.

The senior executives who wanted to seize power when Jian Zhihuan stepped down wouldn't give up their fight just because of the profits Sang Shi'an earned for Jian Corporation. It seemed likely that Jian Cenyu had privately warned them off.

Ren Li's worries about Sang Shi'an lessened slightly.

But only a little.

Sang Shi'an diligently peeled a lychee for Ren Li. Seeing that her mother was in a good mood, she asked tentatively, “Mom, there shouldn't be any problems with these documents, right? The legal team has checked them several times. I don't know why Uncle Jian specifically told me to look into the relevant US laws.”

Ren Li's action of flipping through the documents paused.

Sang Shi'an whispered, “There isn't actually a problem, is there?”

Ren Li glanced at her.

The documents were fine, but the listing was problematic.

Sang Shi'an and Jian Cenyu registered their marriage in Las Vegas, which meant their assets in the United States would be classified as marital property. If anything unexpected happened in the future, dividing the assets would be very troublesome.

Just as Ren Li was about to tell Sang Shi'an about this, she heard Sang Shiyue ask, “The United States?”

Sang Shi'an nodded. “Yeah. The anti-cancer drug doesn't belong to Jian Corporation like other drugs; it's just a partnership. So, Cenyu Jiejie's idea is to set up a separate subsidiary under Jian Corporation to go public, which would make the financial dealings with Jian Corporation clearer.”

Sang Shiyue sneered, “The two of you are hopeless.”

Sang Shi'an was caught off guard by the scolding and didn't understand. “What do you mean, hopeless? I think this plan is great. It'll stop those Jian Corporation shareholders from always trying to meddle.”

Sang Shiyue: “I'm talking about Jian Cenyu and you. The two of you are hopeless.”

One eagerly runs off to another person's company to do hard labor, while the other goes public in the US under pressure just for a useless title of joint marital property.

Two love-struck brains, both completely hopeless.

Sang Shiyue couldn't be bothered to explain to Sang Shi'an, afraid that talking to her too much would infect him with a love-struck brain. He picked up his phone and headed out. “I'm going out.”

Ren Li called out to him, “Will you be back for dinner later?”

Sang Shiyue picked up his suit jacket and put it on. “No, I'm flying to Germany in two hours.”

Sang Shi'an was surprised. “Brother, you have to fly to Europe even on the weekend?”

Ren Li said with a smile, “Yes. I was originally thinking you could help him with some work after you graduated, but when he heard you went to Jian Corporation, your brother threw a huge tantrum at Shengyu. He's been really busy lately, so you should provoke him less.”

Sang Shi'an blinked, suddenly feeling that the Shengyu shares she held were a bit too hot to handle. She reflected for a moment and felt that she had been a bit selfish lately, not considering her family. So, she hugged Ren Li and started saying sweet things.

Half an hour later, Sang Shi'an's phone screen lit up. She secretly glanced at it, resisting the urge to open her phone, and continued to lean against Ren Li, talking with her.

Ren Li quickly noticed Sang Shi'an's unusual behavior. She was drinking water one moment and nibbling on fruit the next, constantly shifting her posture. Amused, Ren Li patted Sang Shi'an's head. “You finally have a few days to rest. Go upstairs and take a nap.”

Sang Shi'an shook her head, insisting, “I want to spend more time with Mom.”

“There's plenty of time. Once things at Jian Corporation stabilize, won't you have all the time in the world?” Ren Li patted Sang Shi'an's lower back and said with a smile, “Go on. Don't set the air conditioner in your room too low.”

Sang Shi'an went back to her room with her phone.

She immediately made a video call to Jian Cenyu.

As soon as Jian Cenyu answered, she was met with a lecture from Sang Shi'an. “Jian Cenyu, how are you getting so clingy? I was just talking with my mom about the public listing, and you kept sending message after message. It's a good thing Mom didn't ask me about it, otherwise I wouldn't know how to protect your image.”

Jian Cenyu chuckled softly. “You're right. Who can blame me for not being able to live without you?”

Sang Shi'an's eyes darted around, and her ears quietly turned red.

“So, what were all those messages you sent me for, anyway?”

“You didn't see them?”

“No, I just got back to my room.” Sang Shi'an was indeed a little sleepy and let out a slow yawn.

Jian Cenyu said, “My father said he mentioned the matter of the listing to you. Don't feel burdened by it, after all, we—”

Sang Shi'an was completely confused and interrupted Jian Cenyu, “What psychological burden? Isn't going public pretty simple? Just register a company. We have the resources and enough capital for the listing, so we don't need to find other investors.”

Sang Shi'an had to know about this sooner or later, and Jian Cenyu had no intention of hiding it. Profit and risk coexisted. She said, “It's about the decision to list in the United States. It will be directly linked to our marital property. You will get a share of the profits, but if the company runs into debt one day, you will also have to bear that debt. So you still have a chance to reconsider. I can change the listing location.”

Sang Shi'an let out a surprised “Ah!” Remembering her mother's and brother's attitudes just now, her face broke into a smile. “So, I'm about to get another source of income where I can earn money just by lying down?”

Jian Cenyu couldn't help but laugh. She felt that no matter how small the chance, it was necessary to remind Sang Shi'an, “If the company is poorly managed, you will also bear the corresponding debt.”

Sang Shi'an didn't care. With a big tree like Jian Corporation to lean on, how could it possibly fall? Would health insurance stop needing medicine, or would the entire country stop taking medicine?

“No need to change it. Let's go with the United States.”

A week later, Jian Corporation's quarterly shareholders' meeting was held.

Compared to previous meetings, this one had an additional agenda item: a vote on making Sang Shi'an's position permanent after her three-month probation.

It went quite smoothly at first, until just before the voting ended, when an inconspicuous man sitting in the corner said, “Please wait. Our CEO Sang said that this vote is crucial for Jian Corporation. He cannot treat this matter casually and needs to ask for the opinion of the holder of these shares.”

Two years ago, the Sang family's shares in Jian Corporation were divided among several people. Although they were scattered on the surface, they were still one family, so it wouldn't be strange if there were private, unnotarized share transfer agreements.

For the past two years, the Sang family had always sent an assistant to attend the shareholders' meetings. Whatever Jian Zhihuan's opinion was, the attending assistant would hold the same opinion, without any objection.

It was rare for them to make a request today, so naturally, it had to be granted.

Thus, a shareholder sitting next to the assistant suggested, “Can you contact CEO Sang right now? Let's ask for his opinion.”

But the assistant shook his head mysteriously and said, “The holder of the shares is not our CEO Sang.”

Hearing this, the smile on Sang Shi'an's face froze.

No wonder her brother hadn't said a single harsh word about this matter; it was so out of character for him.

So this was what he had been waiting for.

Sang Shi'an immediately wanted to escape.

That assistant was here on Sang Shiyue's orders; of course, he wouldn't let her get away.

From the farthest corner of the conference table, he strode imposingly toward Sang Shi'an. “Miss Sang, regarding the matter of your own appointment to the position of CEO of Jian Corporation, is your opinion one of approval or disapproval?”

Sang Shi'an: ...
