ORCBRB – Chapter 83

Chapter 83

After the New Year, work resumed. Following Jian Cenyu’s experience of drinking so much she ended up in the hospital, Sang Shi'an stuck to her at every meal, attending one dinner party after another.

At first, Sang Shi'an was very resistant to this business model of getting things done over drinks, but because of what happened to Jian Cenyu, she went from being able to drink only one bottle of beer to developing a tolerance where she could drink three liang of baijiu and still be able to drag Jian Cenyu to a movie.

Of course, she didn't doze off at all during the whole thing.

More than half a month later, when Sang Shi'an ran into Sang Shiyue outside a hotel, she didn't tease him about fooling around as she usually did. Instead, she said, “You’re working hard so late, Brother,” which left Sang Shiyue completely stunned.

Jian Cenyu appeared behind Sang Shi'an and nodded at Sang Shiyue. Sang Shiyue stubbed out his cigarette and walked over. “This girl really needs you to discipline her. I haven't seen her for a few days, and she's already become so sensible.”

Jian Cenyu draped her coat over Sang Shi'an and glanced at the assistant behind Sang Shiyue. “President Sang is so busy, how would you have time to bring someone along?”

Sang Shi'an slowly put on her clothes in the hotel lobby. When the automatic doors opened and closed, a cold draft from outside seeped in. Sang Shi'an leaned closer to Jian Cenyu, listening impatiently to their pleasantries, which sounded just like the tones of the people at the dinner table earlier—very boring.

“When I arrived, I saw your car was blocked in by an illegally parked vehicle. I'm not sure if it's moved yet. Do you want a ride in my car?” Sang Shiyue smiled and said, “Don't worry, I guarantee I'll get you two home safely.”

Sang Shi'an felt that the version of herself who had just felt sorry for Sang Shiyue for being out entertaining clients was a complete idiot. She clicked her tongue in annoyance. “Sang Shiyue, don't make it sound like you're taking a lover home.”

Sang Shiyue raised both hands. “My dear ancestor, you're the one overthinking it. How would I dare?”

Just then, Jian Cenyu received a call from Secretary Chen. It was just as Sang Shiyue had said; their car was blocked. So, the group took Sang Shiyue's car.

In the car, Sang Shiyue chatted with Jian Cenyu about the pharmaceutical reform project. Seeing Sang Shi'an leaning against Jian Cenyu in the rearview mirror, he couldn't help but tease, “Sang Shi'an, when are you going to be your brother's assistant for a change?”

Sang Shi'an listlessly lifted her eyelids and said coldly, “One hundred thousand per time, and no drinking.”

This angered Sang Shiyue so much that he called her an ungrateful brat. Sang Shi'an was righteously defiant; after all, her loyalties lay elsewhere.

Sang Shiyue steered the conversation back to business. “I saw people from the Propaganda Committee just now. Is the pharmaceutical reform connected to them too? How press releases are issued shouldn't have much to do with you pharmaceutical companies, right?”

“It's never wrong to build connections in advance.” Jian Cenyu adjusted her posture, her eyes still on Sang Shi'an.

“That group is pretty hard to deal with, aren't they? They look like a department that just writes materials, but they control all the information.”

“As long as the proper courtesies are observed, it's fine.”

“The way you say that, I'm starting to think you're not doing this for business, but for personal reasons.” Sang Shiyue casually turned his head, his eyes meeting Jian Cenyu's. His posture was lazy, but his gaze was full of meaning.

Sang Shi'an was a little dizzy from the alcohol. Hearing this, she lifted her eyelids. “What personal matter are you talking about?”

“It's nothing, go back to sleep.” Jian Cenyu covered Sang Shi'an's eyes and gently patted her on the back with her other hand.

The inside of the Maybach suddenly became very quiet, with only the faint hum of the engine. Neither Sang Shiyue nor Jian Cenyu spoke. After a moment, Jian Cenyu said, “Just making a friend.”

Sang Shiyue said no more. When they arrived at the community building and were saying goodbye, Jian Cenyu called out to Sang Shiyue, “The first phase of the pharmaceutical reform project has been implemented. There's a related reception in three days. Do you want to come?”

Sang Shiyue had invested a lot of money in it, and it was also a rare social occasion. He turned his head to ask his assistant about his schedule. After getting a reply, he said, “Send me the time and place. I'll be there on time.”

The whole country was watching the implementation of Yancheng's reform. On February 25th, the first phase of the pharmaceutical reform project was fully completed. After several rounds of news reports, the stock price of Jian Corporation, a century-old pharmaceutical company, soared repeatedly.

The reception was not only to celebrate the first phase but also to attract investment for the second phase. The scope of the pharmaceutical reform was expanding, and it was inevitable that new companies would need to enter and collaborate.

As the CEO of Jian Corporation, Jian Zhihuan deliberately did not attend this reception, leaving Jian Cenyu in full charge. This was also a new signal Jian Zhihuan wanted to send to the industry and the market regarding the heir of Jian Corporation.

No matter how many rumors there had been before about a change in the heir of Jian Corporation, at this reception, everything seemed to be settled. If Jian Corporation wanted to ride the waves and reach new heights, the person to lead the way had to be Jian Cenyu.

At the reception, many pharmaceutical companies that had previously been watching from the sidelines came to congratulate Jian Cenyu and probe about the future scope and plans of the pharmaceutical reform from the higher-ups. The withdrawal of foreign pharmaceutical markets had created too many opportunities for domestic companies. With the government's overall coordination and control in place, who wouldn't be envious if they could meet the required pharmaceutical standards and production quantities?

Jian Cenyu wore a white vintage haute couture outfit. The stiff suit fabric was adorned with a double-breasted design, and the lower half was a knee-length pencil skirt. Every inch of the tailoring seemed custom-made, elegant and intellectual, completely concealing her young age.

Sang Shi'an deliberately entered with Sang Shiyue, wearing another haute couture long dress from the current season. No one noticed that their outfits were from the same brand, nor did anyone notice that Jian Cenyu's blue brooch and the sapphire ring on Sang Shi'an's hand were from the same rough stone.

Sang Shi'an took a glass of champagne, walked up, and offered her congratulations. When Jian Cenyu saw her, a genuine smile appeared on her lips. “Thank you.”

After they arrived, the people who had been surrounding Jian Cenyu temporarily dispersed. As their champagne glasses lightly clinked, in the moment they were close, Sang Shi'an asked, “Junior CEO Jian, school is starting soon. When will I get my salary?”

Jian Cenyu calmly took a sip of champagne, like a capitalist who haggles over every penny with their workers. “Oh? You still need to be paid?”

In the eyes of others, the Sang and Jian families, who had both benefited from the pharmaceutical reform, now seemed to be having some sort of conflict of interest. After all, Sang Shiyue's brows were furrowed, as if there was something they couldn't agree on.

The onlookers consciously took half a step back to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.

But the real reason Sang Shiyue was frowning was that Sang Shi'an had once again rejected the salary Jian Cenyu offered. From a considerable sum of money to the jewelry and bags Sang Shi'an had recently been interested in, for every offer Jian Cenyu made, Sang Shi'an would turn it down with disdain.

Sang Shiyue couldn't listen anymore and coughed lightly as a reminder. “An'an, that's enough. Other people are waiting.”

Sang Shi'an wasn't really there for a salary. This kind of learning opportunity, obtained through parental connections to work directly beside someone with real power in the company, was a privilege for the intern and not the same as an internship in the general sense.

Urged by Sang Shiyue, Sang Shi'an had no choice but to reveal her true purpose. “I'll be waiting for Junior CEO Jian in 3709. We can talk slowly after you're done?”

Before Jian Cenyu could nod, Sang Shi'an took Sang Shiyue's arm and left. As they brushed past each other, the room key for 3709 fell into the pocket of Jian Cenyu's suit jacket.

Jian Cenyu pressed her elbow against the pocket opening, chuckled softly, and got a new glass of wine from a waiter before rejoining the crowd.

It was two hours later when Jian Cenyu swiped the card and entered the room.

Sang Shi'an had already finished her shower. The moment Jian Cenyu walked in, she jumped onto her. The pleasant scent of shower gel filled her nose as she eagerly kissed Jian Cenyu until they both tumbled onto the bed.

Jian Cenyu propped herself up. The brooch on her suit jacket refracted the light, creating a brilliant sparkle. Her gaze lingered gently on Sang Shi'an's eyes and brows before returning to her lips. “How do you want to claim your salary tonight?”

Sang Shi'an's long hair spread out on the bed like seaweed. Her fingers slid sensually down from Jian Cenyu's collarbone until they rested over her heart, pressing down slightly. “Make me happy, and anything goes.”

Jian Cenyu held Sang Shi'an's hand and said in a low voice, “I'm going to take a shower first.”

Sang Shi'an's bathrobe was mostly open. After Jian Cenyu left, she casually pulled it together, not paying much mind, and saw her phone screen light up.

It was from Jian Cenyu, who had gone to shower.

The sound of running water came from the bathroom. Sang Shi'an raised an eyebrow, opened WeChat, and saw a picture of a pink diamond necklace. Its brilliant color was like a meter that, the moment she saw the photo, shot straight up into the eight-figure range, in time with her accelerating heartbeat.

【Remember to get it when you get home. It's already in the walk-in closet】

It was obviously prepared long ago. Sang Shi'an, who had been dismissive of the pink Lamborghini her own brother gave her, felt her girlish heart explode upon seeing this pink diamond necklace from Jian Cenyu. She thought Jian Cenyu's taste was perfect in every way. How could she be so good at picking gifts that suited her so well?

She looked at the photo over and over again, countless times, feeling even more delighted than if she had the real thing in her hands, until the sound of water stopped and Jian Cenyu, enveloped in steam, walked out of the bathroom.

When she was pushed down onto the bed, Jian Cenyu's mouth alone made her lose her composure twice. Her parted legs trembled nonstop; it was truly too pleasurable.

When Sang Shi'an was satisfied, she was pushed against the one-way floor-to-ceiling window. As she arched her neck, unable to bear it, her gaze fell upon the inverted sky high above. Her eyes filled with tears, and her entire body and soul felt like they were flying.

She was truly overjoyed. Lying sweaty in Jian Cenyu's arms, Sang Shi'an's voice was hoarse. “Jian Cenyu, even though I was the one who suggested paying my salary with my body, you didn't have to work so hard, did you?”

Sang Shi'an's stamina could never match Jian Cenyu's. Her physical fitness was one reason, but another was that her body was particularly sensitive. She dehydrated easily, and once she did, she would become limp and powerless, at the mercy of the other person.

Her dazed appearance was especially beautiful.

Jian Cenyu gently caressed the reddened corners of Sang Shi'an's eyes and asked, “So, are you satisfied?”

“It was okay, I guess. Passable.” Sang Shi'an gave Jian Cenyu a little push. “Go take a shower, it's so hot.”

Overused tonight, no need for cuddling after, just tossed aside. Jian Cenyu chuckled softly, kissed the spot between Sang Shi'an's eyebrows, and said, “Alright, you rest for a bit then.”

As she was getting out of bed, Jian Cenyu's hand was hooked by Sang Shi'an's. Jian Cenyu turned back and asked, “Want to come with me?”

Sang Shi'an's eyes lifted to the area below Jian Cenyu's waist, and her face turned bright red. “Put some clothes on before you go to the bathroom.”

Jian Cenyu smiled. “You're shy about this?”

Sang Shi'an said irritably, “Are you going to put something on or not?”

Jian Cenyu bent down to get a bathrobe. Just as Sang Shi'an was about to breathe a sigh of relief, she realized the bathrobe beside her hadn't moved. Instead, she was being lifted into Jian Cenyu's arms.

Jian Cenyu explained with a straight face, “I'll carry you to the shower with me. As long as you don't look down, you won't see anything.”

Sang Shi'an's eyelashes trembled subconsciously. She hesitated for a moment, then obediently hooked her hands around Jian Cenyu's shoulders.

Well, that's fine too, I guess.
