Chapter 101

Although Wen Lianchang didn't know where this classic line came from, he felt something wasn't quite right: "Isn't five million a bit too little? Is my daughter only worth five million?" He thought for a moment and added, "Besides, Qin Zhen isn't short of five million either."

Wen Shixue said, "I was just giving an example." Then she put down her teacup, casually picked up a throw pillow to hug, and moved closer to Wen Lianchang, initiating the conversation. "Dad, why did Mom go to my girlfriend's place? Is it really like I guessed, to make Qin Zhen leave me?"

She wasn't someone who liked making choices. As an adult, she naturally wanted both her parents and her girlfriend, aiming for a perfect ending. Moreover, if she had to choose between them, Qin Zhen would feel incredibly guilty, and Wen Lianchang and Meng Yuezhu wouldn't feel good either.

Wen Lianchang slowly rotated the teacup in his hand. The tea within was fragrant, and taking a sip was mellow and clear. The perfect temperature rolled from his tongue into his stomach, warming his heart.

Wen Shixue watched him put down the teacup, his expression calm and unchanged, as if he hadn't heard her or was deliberately being coy. This made her unable to resist calling out, "Dad." She added, "You can't think about breaking up Qin Zhen and me. I will absolutely not separate from her."

Wen Lianchang turned his head and gazed at her silently for a moment, then reached out and patted her head, giving her a look that said, "Calm down."

Qin Zhen opened her door and was slightly startled to see Meng Yuezhu standing outside. She quickly realized why the other party had come, so she calmly stepped aside and invited her in.

Meng Yuezhu stood at the doorway, gazing at her. She was wearing comfortable home clothes, tall and slender, with an outstanding appearance—just as before. This was the person her daughter liked, and the person they had always trusted.

She withdrew her gaze, adjusted her coat, and stepped inside.

This was her first time visiting Qin Zhen's place. The apartment was spacious, with three bedrooms and a living room, filled with clear and ample light. There was a black treadmill by the living room balcony, and a small flower stand with a touch of everyday life by the wall. Her gaze lingered on the treadmill for a moment, and she suddenly recalled the things Wen Shixue had said while clinging to her and acting spoiled.

It seemed every word Wen Shixue said was true.

Qin Zhen walked forward and, noticing Meng Yuezhu looking at the treadmill, felt a strange moment of nervousness. Even her tone carried a hint of unconcealed unease: "What would you like to drink?"

"Just a glass of warm water," Meng Yuezhu said politely. After Qin Zhen left, she stood alone in the living room, observing her surroundings.

The apartment was very tidy, spotless, which made a great impression and suggested the owner's living habits. She also noticed that many of the decorations in the apartment were blue, and for a moment, she wasn't sure if her daughter, who liked blue, had bought them, or if Qin Zhen had.

She smoothed her skirt and sat down on the soft sofa. Looking at Qin Zhen who had returned, she casually asked, "Do you like blue, like Shixue?"

Qin Zhen calmly replied, "Yes, I do."

Meng Yuezhu continued to observe the layout of the apartment. To be honest, when parents see their child living in such a neat and comfortable space every day, they will definitely feel comforted and relieved, glad that their child is living well even after leaving home.

She imagined what it would be like if Wen Shixue had found someone messy, whose apartment was like a dog's den, chaotic everywhere. In that case, they, as parents, would definitely never agree to them being together, because how could someone who couldn't even keep their own place tidy take good care of their daughter?

After making this comparison, she suddenly felt that having someone as mature and steady as Qin Zhen, someone who knew how to live, with Wen Shixue was actually a good choice—at least Qin Zhen had a way to make their daughter exercise obediently, didn't she?

She took the water glass Qin Zhen brought her, holding it in her hands without drinking, her gaze still fixed on her. "You should know why I came today?"

Qin Zhen sat down on the other sofa, her hands clasped together, her left hand quietly stroking the back of her right hand. "...I know."

Meng Yuezhu held the water glass in her palms, not drinking, her gaze still on her. "What do you like about my daughter?"

A classic opening line. Qin Zhen had already anticipated this question. Raising her eyes to meet Meng Yuezhu's gaze steadily, she answered sincerely and seriously, "Everything about her."

She liked Wen Shixue, not just her outgoing and cheerful personality, but also her kindness, her spoiled nature, her quirkiness, her uniqueness... She loved every aspect of her. It was precisely these various special qualities that made up the complete Wen Shixue; not one bit less would do.

Hearing this, Meng Yuezhu asked again, "And what can you do for her?"

Qin Zhen didn't answer immediately, because a slight desire to please suddenly arose. She desperately analyzed in her mind what answer Meng Yuezhu wanted, so she could give a perfect response. Only by pleasing the other party would the chance of being accepted be greater, and Wen Shixue would also be very happy.

But no matter how much she thought, she realized she was truly not suited to saying sweet and earth-shattering vows in front of others. So, perhaps it was better to give up. Why force herself to do something she couldn't? It was better to tell the truth. As long as her heart was sincere, Meng Yuezhu would surely see her feelings.

So she followed her heart and said, word by word, "When working, I will do everything within my duties for her. After work, I will let her continue to be a little princess who doesn't need to worry about daily necessities."

And this was exactly what she was doing for Wen Shixue now, and she would continue to do so in the future. No matter how old Wen Shixue was, in her eyes, she would always be a little princess, free to act spoiled and willful, doing everything she wanted without any constraints.

"What if," Meng Yuezhu raised her head slightly, "I ask you to leave her?"

Her clasped hands suddenly tightened. A ripple finally appeared in Qin Zhen's calm eyes. She pursed her lips and slowly met Meng Yuezhu's sharp gaze. "I'm sorry, Auntie Meng."

"—I can't do that."

Meng Yuezhu pressed on, "Even if we kick you out of Wen Group, strip you of the career you've worked so hard for all these years, and make you start over?"

Qin Zhen nodded gently.

Meng Yuezhu asked, "Aren't you afraid? Not many people have the courage to give up everything and start over at your age."

Qin Zhen smiled upon hearing this. "I'm not afraid."

"Because she is my courage to start over."

It was certain, unquestionable, and deeply affectionate.

Meng Yuezhu suddenly stopped talking, gently placed the water glass down, and said, "I understand." She then stood up. "I've bothered you today, I'll head back now."

Wen Shixue ran after Meng Yuezhu, constantly asking questions, like a little bee flying around, buzzing incessantly.

"Mom, what did you say to my Qin Zhen Jie?"

"You didn't use money to make her leave me, did you? You didn't scare her, did you? If you scare her away, I'm going to make you compensate me."

"Mom, say something."

"Hello, Ms. Meng, are you still online?"

Wen Shixue's questions were numerous and rapid, like a little machine gun firing non-stop when she got anxious, making it impossible for anyone to interject. Meng Yuezhu felt like she had been put under the Golden Fillet spell; not only her ears but even her head ached from the nagging. Finally, she stopped and turned to look at her.

Wen Shixue immediately stood still, smiling warmly.

Meng Yuezhu stood there and looked at her for a few seconds. In the end, she didn't answer her questions, but just reached out and gently tapped her nose. "Remember, Mom worked hard to give birth to you, not for you to suffer. No matter when, Mom and Dad will always be the people who love you the most in the world."

Wen Shixue was touched by this and stretched out her arms to hug her, calling out "Mama" softly and affectedly a few times, then pulled the topic back. "So what did you say to my girlfriend? You didn't scare her, did you?"

Meng Yuezhu pinched her face, took her hand away, and turned to walk upstairs. "I'm going to find your dad. You can go ask her yourself, anyway, you're going to call her in a bit."

Seeing this, Wen Shixue understood and then smiled brightly. "Ms. Meng, you've worked hard." She also returned to her room to call her girlfriend.

Once she sorted things out here, she would go back to work at the company and continue living at her girlfriend's place. After all, she had given herself so many extra days off.

Qin Zhen sat alone in the living room, silently contemplating the meaning behind Meng Yuezhu's words today. Did it mean she agreed to her and Wen Shixue being together, or not? But looking at her expression before she left... things didn't seem optimistic.

Then the phone on the coffee table suddenly rang. It was her beautiful little demon king calling her.

As soon as the call connected, Wen Shixue excitedly asked, "How was it, Lao Qin? What did my mom say?"

Qin Zhen said with little certainty, "Not very optimistic."

Wen Shixue: "?"

Were they seeing the same person? Why did she feel that the attitude of Ms. Meng she had just seen was very optimistic?

She scratched her face in confusion. "What happened? What did my mom say to you? Did she scare you?"

Qin Zhen was silent for a moment on the other end, then recounted what had happened.

Wen Shixue: "???"

Good heavens, Ms. Meng Yuezhu, you really did say half a classic line to scare her??

She heard Qin Zhen softly call her name, clearly a bit disheartened.

Qin Zhen certainly didn't want to see her break ties with her parents, especially when she was the reason. But they had been together for so long, promising to accompany each other for a lifetime, and couldn't break their promise. The current Qin Zhen was probably caught between love and familial duty, finding it difficult on both sides.

Wen Shixue sighed, her gaze soft as she comforted her. "Don't worry, my mom was definitely just trying to scare you. They won't break ties with me, and I won't leave you. Trust your courage."

Qin Zhen softly "Mm"ed, then said in a low, clinging yet restrained voice, "Shixue, come back quickly."

"I miss you so much..."

After Meng Yuezhu left, her longing for Wen Shixue grew stronger than ever. She even started to childishly and willfully want to go to the Wen family's house, bring her back, and hide her away, not letting anyone take her.

Wen Shixue's ears softened upon hearing this. "I'll be back tomorrow. You'll see me when you get home from work. Be good, okay?"

Now she was going to get justice for Qin Zhen and ask their Ms. Meng Yuezhu why she had to scare her dear girlfriend!

The next day, as soon as she got off work, Qin Zhen rushed home. As she opened the door, she saw the person she had been thinking about standing in the entrance hall, saying softly to her, "Welcome home."

Her long hair slightly lifted, Qin Zhen hugged her tightly, as if afraid she would be snatched away.

Qin Zhen lowered her head, her voice and breath against Wen Shixue's ear. "I thought Auntie Meng wouldn't let you come back to see me..."

"How could that be?" Wen Shixue smiled. "Lao Meng even asked me to bring you a gift."

Qin Zhen hesitated. "What?"

Wen Shixue handed her a medium-sized square gift box. "Open it and see for yourself."

Qin Zhen gazed at the gift box for a moment, then finally raised her hand to untie the delicate red ribbon and opened the box. The first thing she saw was a palm-sized blue bear lying inside, with a white heart-shaped ribbon tied around its neck—it was handmade by Meng Yuezhu.

Qin Zhen couldn't help but be startled.

Wen Shixue held her hand, her voice as gentle as a breeze.

"From today onwards, our Qin Zhen is a child of the Wen family."
