Chapter 51

Seeing Wen Shixue speak with such righteous confidence, Qin Zhen simply picked out a knowledge point they had discussed to test her, to see if she could truly focus on two things at once.

As it turned out, Wen Shixue answered fluently, adding a sweet smile befitting a girlfriend. Her parents were both intelligent people; how could their daughter's IQ possibly embarrass them? Wen Shixue: I am the witty business genius Wen Shixue!

Qin Zhen finished her test and let her be. She spent ten minutes explaining the areas Wen Shixue wasn't familiar with and quickly discussed methods to solve the problems. There were no hitches during the process, except for Wen Shixue's overly fervent gaze.

Qin Zhen tidied the documents on the desk, habitually stroking Wen Shixue's hair and praising, "Shixue did very well today too."

Their agreed-upon secret relationship meant she wouldn't linger in Wen Shixue's office for too long outside of work hours, lest people speculate wildly. Young people nowadays have boundless imaginations, and there were quite a few young employees in the secretarial office. It was possible one or two might have a wild guess about their relationship, and wouldn't that cause trouble for Wen Shixue?

Vice President Qin, who didn't want to trouble President Wen, very consciously picked up the documents and turned to leave. But President Wen, who was even clingier than usual, wouldn't let her go, reaching out and grabbing her plain white, soft shirt.

Wen Shixue sat in her chair, looking up at her from below. "Lao Qin, are you just going to leave like that?"

Qin Zhen slowly turned back, her eyes lowered, seeing through her thoughts at a glance. She asked gently, "What do you want me to do?"

Wen Shixue's eyes curved into crescents. She slowly stood up, took a step closer, and possessively propped her hands on the edge of the desk, trapping Qin Zhen. She looked up at her for a few seconds, then raised a hand and pointed to her lips.

Qin Zhen's gaze involuntarily followed her fingertip, silently falling upon those two rosy lips. Their moist, bright color was like vibrant berries, both beautiful and enticing.

"Kiss me before you go," Wen Shixue said with a smile.

The wonderful experience of their first kiss had filled Wen Shixue with intense interest in kissing the person she liked. She couldn't help but think about it. Just this morning before leaving, she had hooked her arms around Qin Zhen's neck and kissed her against the wall for quite a while.

Or rather, she simply loved having more intimate contact with Qin Zhen. From Qin Zhen accepting physical touch to their current level of intimacy, every step highlighted her special and important place in Qin Zhen's life.

She no longer needed to childishly dwell on who came first in Qin Zhen's heart, like when Tao Wanwan hugged Qin Zhen back then. Because from now on, this was her Qin Zhen alone. Qin Zhen would only hug her, kiss her, love her, and be good to her. Others could only look, not touch—thinking about it wouldn't help either.

Qin Zhen leaned calmly against the black office desk, composedly brushing aside Wen Shixue's long hair. She reminded her, "Shixue, this is the company."

Wen Shixue started using her ultimate coquettish technique again: "Just one little kiss, please?"

Qin Zhen, as always, had no way to refuse her. Thinking that just one kiss wouldn't cause much trouble, she temporarily cast her principles aside, readily agreed, gently stroked Wen Shixue's face, and lowered her head to kiss her.

Then, a sudden knock on the door interrupted them mercilessly.

After knocking to signal her presence, Bai Jing walked in with a large stack of documents. She spoke as she looked up, "President Wen, these are the materials you need—"

Upon seeing the intimate posture of her two superiors, the words in her throat suddenly choked. She felt the atmosphere in the office become particularly awkward after she entered.

Qin Zhen's hand had swiftly dropped the moment Bai Jing entered. She leaned against the desk edge, seemingly composed, without turning around. Wen Shixue, however, didn't move. The distance between them was the same as before Bai Jing came in. She showed no change in expression or heartbeat, merely looking at Bai Jing standing at the door with an ambiguous gaze.

Bai Jing felt a chill down her neck from being stared at. Just as she thought she had stumbled into a major affair scene, Wen Shixue slowly raised her hand, propped open her eyes, and turned to Qin Zhen without changing her expression. She said, "Vice President Qin, look again for me. I still feel like that eyelash is there?"

So, she was looking at her eye. Bai Jing immediately breathed a huge sigh of relief. If she had really walked in on an affair, she felt Wen Shixue wouldn't let her live to see the sun tomorrow.

Secretary General Bai: Our boss's power is something others know nothing about...

Qin Zhen inexplicably wanted to laugh and also wanted to praise her little girlfriend's quick thinking, but the timing wasn't right. She could only cooperate and look first.

While acting, Wen Shixue said to Bai Jing, "Just put the documents on my desk. Thank you for your hard work, Secretary Bai."

Bai Jing said okay, put down the documents, and walked out with a normal expression.

Wen Shixue's eyes were tired from holding them open. She blinked, then quickly leaned up and kissed Qin Zhen on the lips, saying, "The office is indeed a bit risky."

Qin Zhen nodded, just about to say, "There won't be a next time," when she saw Wen Shixue's smile start to look mischievous again. "But it's okay, I have many backup locations."

Qin Zhen: "...?"

You actually want a next time? No, you actually have backup locations???

Vice President Qin couldn't help but ponder deeply. Today, she was also curious about how many strange and nonsensical things were packed inside her little girlfriend's head.

Late autumn had arrived. After getting off work and heading home, Wen Shixue opened the car window. The autumn wind that rushed in was impolite, pouring into her collar and sliding over her skin, making her shiver. Then, Qin Zhen closed the window.

Qin Zhen said with a serious face, "The weather is cold. Don't let the wind blow on you, you'll catch a cold."

Wen Shixue turned her head to look at the beige coat Qin Zhen was wearing, propped her head on her hand, and said, "Lao Qin, wear more clothes. When I get cold, I'll come into your arms to warm up. I want both a girlfriend and warmth."

Qin Zhen held the steering wheel and didn't look at her. Hearing this, she just chuckled softly and sighed indulgently, "You..." She didn't say anything further.

After returning home, Wen Shixue was about to roll up her sleeves to help Qin Zhen cook when her phone in her arms started buzzing. Meng Yuezhu sent her a video call.

As soon as she connected, she saw a dignified woman with a refined appearance, wearing a light short-sleeved shirt. Behind the woman was a fine sandy beach. The sea breeze was gently pushed towards the small house where the woman was by the surging waves, cool and leisurely, a stark contrast to their current late autumn season.

Looking over Meng Yuezhu's shoulder, Wen Shixue also saw her own father, dressed casually, holding his phone and squatting on the ground, taking pictures of who knows what.

Wen Shixue's face lit up with a smile as she called out, "Lao Meng!" Then she added, "Are you having fun?"

Meng Yuezhu's eyes curved into smiles. When she smiled, she looked exactly like Wen Shixue. "Of course I'm having fun."

Wen Shixue said, "That's good. Oh, right, why did you call?"

"The weather is getting cold," Meng Yuezhu said. "I called to tell you to wear more clothes and not catch a cold. Also, drink less cold drinks and more hot water to warm yourself up. People need to drink water every day, it's good for your health, you know?"

Wen Shixue listened to the familiar nagging, nodding her head repeatedly. "I know, I know."

Meng Yuezhu continued, "Mom has seen the new clothes for this autumn and winter. They're warm enough and pretty enough, in the style you always like. I'll have them sent over to you another day. Be good and wear your clothes, prioritize warmth over style. If you get sick, just wait and see how I'll deal with you when I get back."

Wen Shixue smiled and said she understood, stealing a glance at Qin Zhen, who was cooking silently nearby. The smile on her face faded slightly.

She had parents who cared about her, but her Lao Qin didn't...

She gently pursed her lips, looked back at Meng Yuezhu on the screen, and planned to ask Meng Yuezhu to care about Qin Zhen too. To them, both of them were like children. However, before she could speak, Meng Yuezhu asked first, "Is that child Qin Zhen there?"

Hearing her name, Qin Zhen's movements paused involuntarily. She looked over, puzzled.

Wen Shixue immediately said, "Yes, yes, she is."

Meng Yuezhu saw the screen flicker, and soon Qin Zhen's face appeared in her view. Her own daughter carefully squeezed in from the corner, afraid of blocking Qin Zhen yet also afraid Qin Zhen wouldn't see her, her bright eyes wide as she said, "See, that child Qin Zhen is here."

Meng Yuezhu subtly took a screenshot, planning to show Wen Lianchang later how cute their daughter was.

Qin Zhen wiped her hands, her expression very gentle as she called out, "Auntie Meng." She looked quite well-behaved.

Meng Yuezhu looked at her kindly, her tone noticeably warmer. "Qin Zhen, I've also picked out your autumn and winter clothes. I'll have them sent over together later, I hope you'll like them. The weather is getting cold, you should also pay more attention to staying warm and not get sick, that's not comfortable."

"Work is hard. Eat and drink properly, be good to yourself, don't make yourself suffer."

As Qin Zhen listened, her movements of wiping her hands gradually slowed. Being cared for so meticulously by elders outside of the orphanage was an experience more unfamiliar than anything else to her.

She had never had a complete family, never knew what it felt like to be cherished and protected by parents. Fate was both cruel and generous to her; it deprived her of the right to parental love, yet sent Wen Shixue to her side.

Was this compensation? She didn't know, and no one knew. No one could say for sure what the future held.

As she listened, she dried her hands, put down the tissue, and in a place Meng Yuezhu couldn't see, Wen Shixue quietly held her distinctly bony fingers. She looked back at Qin Zhen, her eyes filled with bright light and sincere affection, as if telling her, "I will always be by your side."

The moment she saw those eyes, she suddenly didn't want to care about the future anymore, nor did she want to care if this was compensation. She just wanted to live well in the present, to love Wen Shixue properly, and cherish every day she had her.

Wen Shixue's hand was held back, firmly clasped in Qin Zhen's palm. Unusually, Qin Zhen didn't push her away at this moment, feeling a bit surprised and delighted. The thought that had been floating in her mind—"I will always stay by Qin Zhen's side"—was suddenly grasped firmly.

—No one could break them apart.

Meng Yuezhu was still talking. She had said a lot about caring for Qin Zhen's health, finally adding, "Taking care of this little monkey of mine isn't an easy job, you've really worked hard."

The little monkey Wen Shixue wasn't having it: "Hold on, Ms. Meng, can't you describe your daughter better? How is Qin Zhen supposed to see me? Am I not your little darling, your little princess anymore?"

Wen Shixue couldn't help but wail inwardly: This is my girlfriend! A mother can't say bad things about her daughter to her daughter's girlfriend!!

Qin Zhen chuckled upon hearing this: "Auntie Meng, don't worry, Shixue is very well-behaved. I'm not tired at all."

Wen Shixue said smugly, "Lao Meng, did you hear that? I'm very well-behaved."

Meng Yuezhu sighed, "You don't have to give me face. I still know what she's like..."

Ms. Meng: My daughter is rebellious, breaking my heart!

As Meng Yuezhu was talking, she suddenly remembered the main point: "Oh, right, I remembered yesterday that you're still single, so I talked to your Uncle Wen about it. A friend of your Uncle Wen has a good son. He comes from a good family, is ambitious, and is quite handsome and spirited."

Meng Yuezhu asked with a smile, "Do you want to consider meeting him? If you don't like him, Auntie Meng can find someone else for you."

Wen Shixue: "???"

Qin Zhen: "..."

She seemed to understand where Wen Shixue's hobby of matchmaking came from...
