SCHS - Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Qin Zhen was still looking at the design drafts submitted by the design department and didn't notice Wen Shixue deep in thought.
Wen Shixue conducted a very rigorous logical analysis of what had just happened. Her normally steady heartbeat had changed noticeably the first time Qin Zhen smiled at her, but returned to normal the second time. This should indicate that it wasn't Qin Zhen causing her heart problem.
Was there some hidden illness she had?
Adhering to a rigorous spirit, she went through the original world's script, which she had practically memorized, from beginning to end in her mind, but couldn't find a single issue. In the original world, her later life was indeed miserable, and the various physical problems that arose were caused by external pressure, a result of her own actions, but she was healthy and carefree in the early stages.
So why would her heartbeat show a different reaction?
Could it be that the plot had changed, and the worldline, fearing her life was too dull, suddenly "crashed" down an unexpected surprise on her?!
She pressed her hand tightly against her chest, her brow furrowing deeper the more she thought about it. Her heart was in turmoil. On one hand, she felt that no matter how the plot changed, it should only alter character actions, not suddenly insert a heart condition into a well-established character setting. On the other hand, she worried that the worldline could indeed produce such anomalies. Life was like a chess game with new moves constantly appearing; who could say what the next step would be?
She thought for a moment and decided to go to the hospital for a checkup. If she was sick, she'd get treated; if not, she wouldn't scare herself. Even if she was truly ill, she would forge an independent and free self within her limited lifespan!
Wen Shixue: Paper people never admit defeat!!!
After Qin Zhen finished reading everything and had no comments, she gently tidied the drafts. She looked up at Wen Shixue, and just as she was about to say something, she saw the other person stand up first and say with a serious face, "I have something to do and need to leave the company for a bit. I'll leave things here to you, Lao Qin."
Qin Zhen knew her well and immediately saw that her current seriousness was different from her usual playful seriousness. It seemed like something genuinely important had happened, making her feel solemn as well. After taking care of this 'child' for so long, even the hardest heart would develop feelings. When something unexpected happened, it was impossible not to feel nervous.
Qin Zhen put down the drafts and asked worriedly, "What happened? Do you need me to go with you?"
Wen Shixue refused outright: "No need, I can go by myself."
Qin Zhen wasn't alone now; her parents were behind her. If Qin Zhen knew she was going to the hospital, she would definitely tell them truthfully. If they knew she suddenly went for a checkup, even if she was fine, they would definitely worry and be anxious for her, which would spoil their fun.
So she planned to go by herself. If something was found, she'd be honest; if nothing was wrong, everything would be fine, and she could treat it as a false alarm without disturbing them.
Qin Zhen wanted to say more, but considering Wen Shixue's firm attitude, she ultimately didn't. Instead, she said, "Call me when you're done, and I'll come pick you up."
No matter what happened, she had to see her return safely.
Wen Shixue originally wanted to retort, "I can drive myself," but when she met Qin Zhen's eyes, which were full of worry, she couldn't help but smile and agree, "Okay."
She couldn't refuse Qin Zhen's concern for her like this; she had no choice.
But she was very happy. This at least showed that Qin Zhen cared about her and was no longer wary of her like before—this was friendship!
"Be careful on the road," Qin Zhen couldn't help but worry a little more.
Wen Shixue smiled, patting her shoulder reassuringly: "Don't worry, Vice President Qin."
Wen Shixue went to the city hospital for a checkup and found nothing wrong. Everything was normal; she was very healthy. She held the examination results and slowly walked towards the parking lot, completely calm after realizing it was a false alarm.
As long as she wasn't sick, everything was fine. As for the reason... maybe Qin Zhen was just too beautiful!
As she thought this, she decided to book a full physical examination for the weekend. It was better to check everything to avoid any hidden illness that might suddenly erupt and take her paper life.
But at least her heart was fine. She put the examination results away with a light heart, tossing them into the passenger seat along with her handbag. She glanced at her wristwatch, raised an eyebrow, and picked up her phone.
"Lao Qin," she said after the call connected, "Is everything okay at the company? If there's nothing, want to come out for afternoon tea?"
Consider it a celebration for her little heart being safe and sound!
...
Qin Zhen didn't know why Wen Shixue suddenly wanted afternoon tea, but Wen Shixue's thoughts were always hard to guess. There was a saying circulating privately among Chenfeng's senior executives: "Don't guess President Wen's thoughts; you'll never figure them out no matter how much you guess," which perfectly described Wen Shixue's image.
Maybe she was in a good mood because her task went perfectly and wanted to have tea. Qin Zhen made a casual guess.
The afternoon tea restaurant was decorated in a fresh and elegant style, with blue and white as the main colors, using narrow white wooden flower stands to divide the seating areas. Wen Shixue sat in a soft white sofa chair, slowly and gracefully eating a strawberry sweet pancake tower. Her demeanor was elegant and generous, her temperament calm and striking, finally showing a bit of the refined appearance of a wealthy young lady.
She took a bite, then pushed the strawberry sweet pancake tower towards Qin Zhen: "Try it, it's really good."
She often came to this place with friends, but it was her first time with Qin Zhen, so she naturally took on the responsibility of recommending the restaurant's signature dish. She really liked this restaurant's strawberry sweet pancake tower and hoped Qin Zhen would like it too.
Qin Zhen originally wanted to refuse, but when she met those expectant eyes, the words of refusal inexplicably wouldn't come out, so she had to take a bite. As soon as it entered her mouth, a sweet taste wrapped around a cool, sour tang that rushed to her tongue. The flavor was sweet but not very greasy, indeed quite good.
It really suited her taste, Qin Zhen thought.
Wen Shixue usually loved eating sweets like these and had even once tried to persuade her to learn baking to benefit herself, but in the end, she gave up first for the reason that making money was more important, which made Qin Zhen not know whether to laugh or cry.
"Mm, it's good," Qin Zhen gave an objective evaluation, then asked, "Are you done with your business?"
Wen Shixue took a sip of warm, fragrant milk tea: "Mm, done. If I wasn't done, I wouldn't be sitting here so leisurely drinking tea." Then she remembered something, "I haven't had my physical checkup this year. Have you? If not, want to go with me on Saturday morning?"
From a health perspective, Qin Zhen agreed. If Wen Shixue was found to have any problems, she could inform Wen Lianchang and his wife immediately. With her parents by her side, Wen Shixue would definitely feel more at ease.
Wen Shixue immediately called to book the checkup. As soon as she hung up, there was a crisp sound of glass shattering in the store, startling her and leaving her looking bewildered. Compared to her, Qin Zhen appeared much calmer, her hand instinctively reaching out towards Wen Shixue in a protective gesture.
There weren't many customers in the store at this time. In such a quiet environment, the sudden sound abruptly shifted the atmosphere to an awkward and tense state. After Wen Shixue recovered, she instinctively leaned forward to look, then raised an eyebrow, her expression showing some surprise—oh, wasn't that Lin Jiayu, her original first client?
She saw Lin Jiayu frowning tightly, staring intently at the person opposite her, her expression both angry and humble. The cup was clearly smashed by her. Sitting opposite her was a man, with his back to them, whose posture could be described as arrogant and overbearing, completely disregarding Lin Jiayu, a young lady of wealth, which made Wen Shixue suddenly curious about his identity.
Could it be...
"Zhang Tianhao!" Lin Jiayu raised her voice in exasperation.
Wen Shixue raised an eyebrow again, thinking: As expected.
The only man in the world who could make Miss Lin show a humble expression was probably Zhang Tianhao.
Wen Shixue couldn't forget Zhang Tianhao. It was he who, after listening to Wen Jian, instigated Lin Jiayu to cancel her order with Chenfeng. Otherwise, Lin Jiayu would be their client now!
Wen Shixue: May those two dog men suffer!
Then Qin Zhen clearly saw Wen Shixue subtly move her chair, leaning to the side, perking up her ears, and listening with great interest, practically wanting to put her ears over there.
Qin Zhen: "..."
Qin Zhen: "What are you doing?"
Wen Shixue replied without changing her expression: "Eating melon."
Lin Jiayu and Zhang Tianhao were making a scene in public; it was hard for her, as a customer here, not to hear. Since she couldn't avoid it, she might as well be a qualified and excellent spectator. Moreover, Lin Jiayu liked Zhang Tianhao so much, even to the point of being completely obedient, and yet she was actually getting angry and falling out with him?
Did Zhang Tianhao do something heinous? Then she had to listen even more, and then add him to her blacklist, avoiding him for life! She also had to tell her Lao Wen to avoid him and not cooperate with him in the future!
Qin Zhen: "..."
Is this really okay???
She also glanced over there and, seeing it was their first client Lin Jiayu, suddenly understood why Wen Shixue was so actively "eating melon." She simply let her be and looked down at her phone, flipping through work documents.
Wen Shixue heard Lin Jiayu angrily question Zhang Tianhao: "What's going on with that woman?!"
Zhang Tianhao replied indifferently: "Just having some fun, it's not a big deal. Is there any need to get so angry?"
Lin Jiayu's voice paused for two seconds before sounding incredulous: "Just having some fun? Then what do you take me for? Haven't I been good enough to you? We've been together for so long, have I liked you any less than others?!"
She poured out her true feelings, but Zhang Tianhao only found her pushy and impatient, saying with annoyance, "Alright, stop making a scene."
"Making a scene?" Lin Jiayu was so angry she laughed, tears of frustration welling up in her eyes, "Something like this happened, and you think I'm making a scene? Zhang Tianhao, have you ever liked me?"
She had asked this question many times because she needed a sense of security, but Zhang Tianhao always brought her insecurity. Yet, she liked him so much that she couldn't help it, otherwise, she wouldn't have lasted until today...
Zhang Tianhao said irritably: "Crying again. Look at you, where's the quiet and cute look you had back then? Honestly, I regret pursuing you."
"I should have gone after Wen Shixue instead!"
Wen Shixue: "???"
Qin Zhen: "...?"
How did she end up being mentioned in this?
Zhang Tianhao: "Although Wen Shixue has a bit of a hot temper, isn't very cute, and isn't very smart, she's a hundred times better looking than you, and her figure is good. Thinking about it... she's not bad."
Not inheriting her perfectly good family business and insisting on leading a new company herself to prove herself—what was that if not stupid? Zhang Tianhao expressed great disdain.
Less than five seconds after he finished speaking, the top of his head suddenly felt cold. A cup of ice water was poured down without warning, startling the tears right out of Lin Jiayu's eyes.
He stood up in a sorry state, his temper flaring up instantly. Just as he was about to turn around and curse, he turned and saw Wen Shixue, the person in question, holding an empty water cup and smiling at him, her smile indescribably sinister.
"Didn't expect that, grandson," Wen Shixue said with a smile, "Your ancestor is here too."
