Purely Accidental - Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Chapter 32

The embarrassment etched into Pei Youshan's DNA wouldn't allow her to entertain such a terrifying train of thought.

Even as an author, she wouldn't dare concoct such a self-destructive plotline!

Setting down the orange and wiping her fingers clean, she cupped Xu Jingshu's face with a solemn expression: "No more horror story scenarios like this, okay? I'm deathly afraid of awkward situations. Be good now."

Xu Jingshu: "..."

She nodded with complicated emotions.

Judging by Pei Youshan's reaction, this matter required careful planning and gradual implementation—there was simply no alternative path.

Unless she wanted this newly sprouted affection to become nothing more than a fleeting passerby in life's journey, forever memorialized as a ghost story in Pei Youshan's mind.

Pei Youshan detected rare obedience in her response and immediately brightened, gently stroking her cheek before tying up her hair and returning to orange-peeling.

Her raven locks pulled back revealed a slender, porcelain neck where delicate peach fuzz caught the light.

Though making no deliberate attempt at allure, the sight remained endlessly captivating.

As Pei Youshan reached for another orange, a hand intercepted hers, fingers wrapping tenderly around her wrist.

A low, mesmerizing voice floated by her ear with simple concern: "Don't eat too many—it's not good for you."

Warm breath brushed her earlobe, sending electric currents of tingling sensation through Pei Youshan's stiffened body.

She turned instinctively toward the source, drowning in those abyss-like eyes until words failed her.

The woman before her—with striking beauty, enchanting voice, and dignified grace—sometimes carried herself like royalty.

—Yes, a queen.

Occasionally Pei Youshan wondered if she might be some wealthy family's young mistress.

Yet she couldn't be certain, knowing some who rose from poverty could carry such innate nobility, their past hardships completely invisible.

She studied Xu Jingshu quietly.

Those eyes now held gentle clarity, like an endless babbling brook, creating the illusion of boundless acceptance.

Feeling this illusion, Pei Youshan joked lightly: "Xu Ge, sometimes I really don't think you seem like someone short on money."

Xu Jingshu's movements imperceptibly faltered before she smiled. "Why do you say that?"

"Your aura's different," Pei Youshan mused, tapping her chin. "You carry yourself like aristocracy."

Xu Jingshu: "..."

She technically was...

"Everyone needs money," she deflected smoothly, "even the wealthy."

Pei Youshan tilted her head. "Then why never ask me for more?"

Truthfully, her kept lover seemed oddly detached about finances—rejecting even red envelopes with stern refusal.

Six monthly, never requesting extras, as if content.

Compared to others' sugar babies, hers seemed almost... ascetic.

Xu Jingshu traced circles on her jade-like wrist. "Because it's enough."

She tallied leisurely: "Beyond the six, you buy me clothes, provide housing, and most importantly—"

"There's you."

Her smile held sincerity: "You surpass everything."

Pei Youshan hadn't expected such elevation—placed like the moon itself in value.

Her ears burned crimson. "You... were you always this smooth?"

"Unsure," Xu Jingshu admitted. "Never tried before."

After astonished scrutiny, Pei Youshan laughed: "You'd never struggle with unrequited love."

With such looks, charm and sweet words, few could resist her.

Xu Jingshu: "..."

...If only.

"Your blessing," she murmured, pressing a light kiss to Pei Youshan's lips.

Pei Youshan blinked. ?

That counts as a blessing???

Next day, 11:35 AM.

Blue Ocean Capital cafeteria.

"Pfft—HAHAHAHA!"

Unrestrained laughter erupted from a corner booth.

Xu Jingshu endured the auditory assault stoically as Xu Ge nearly cried from amusement.

—In her lifetime, someone actually fled from their CEO like a horror movie protagonist!

"Oh Lao Xu," Xu Ge wiped tears, "your perpetual singlehood makes perfect sense now."

After composing herself, she tapped the table seriously: "So, what's the plan?"

Xu Jingshu speared an apple slice calmly. "Make her love me back."

Since Pei Youshan feared awkwardness enough to treat the scenario as horror, only transforming it into romance could prevent her becoming a fleeting passerby.

Xu Ge smirked. "Tricky. Love's like stocks—unpredictable. What if she falls for someone else first?"

Xu Jingshu's fork stilled.

The worst possibility, yet one she must acknowledge.

Pei Youshan wasn't some controllable project—her ragdoll cat had autonomy.

She deserved... to choose freely.

"Then I withdraw," Xu Jingshu said finally, tucking hair behind her ear. "No further entanglement."

Xu Ge applauded the attitude and launched into enthusiastic matchmaking advice.

———

Junjiang Hotel Group, meeting room.

"Achoo!"

Pei Youshan's sneeze drew concerned looks.

"Catching cold?" Pei Lanqing frowned.

"Just a sneeze," she assured, accepting tissues from secretary Ye Qin.

Probably someone gossiping about her—whether praise or slander remained unclear.

That evening, returning to her Biyun Garden residence after dinner, she absentmindedly input Hanbai Apartments' passcode at her own door.

The beep of entry revealed a hollow, lifeless hallway under motion-sensor lights.

Suddenly she missed her beautiful companion—her smile, embrace, even the oranges she bought.

This empty apartment felt unbearably foreign now.

She slapped her cheeks.

Good heavens, why does this feel like lovesickness? She's your kept lover, not girlfriend!

Besides, you're missing her—she probably isn't missing you!

The ringing phone displaying "Xu Ge" interrupted her spiraling thoughts.

"Not coming over today?" That velvet voice through the speaker made her lean against the door.

"Not these few days," she replied softly, determined to maintain her sugar mommy dignity by not appearing clingy.

A pause. Then a neutral "Understood."

"Something up?" she asked, twirling her hair.

"Nothing important," came the calm reply. "Just... missed you."
