Synopsis

At twenty-nine, Zhou Yanqian fled the city, shed the weight of a working life that was grinding her down, and bought a convenience store back in her hometown.

The first thing she did was set her sights on the striking driver who came to deliver her stock.

The driver was Lian Wan. She lived right upstairs from the convenience store. She was young, strikingly beautiful, but her face was perpetually cold. Her manner was cool, her replies never more than a word or two. Once, when Zhou Yanqian leaned a little too close, Lian Wan stepped back half a pace, as if she could not bear the scent of her perfume or the sight of her in a slim camisole.

Zhou Yanqian propped her chin on her hand, put out. Was she really that scary?

The very next second, Lian Wan finished unloading, stepped inside for a drink of water, and caught one glance at how cool and bare Zhou Yanqian was dressed. Her face went red to the roots of her ears. She turned her back and stood frozen where she was, not daring to look around.

Later still, Lian Wan parked her truck in front of that convenience store. And she did not leave all night.
